The winter season can begin!

No, I'm joking!

A few kilos of cherries do not make winter [this saying sounds lot's better in my mother language], if you remember the last time two handfuls of ended up as delicious trait.

That was a test to see if they were ready for picking.

They passed! Next day we decided to harvest the first fruits, which would be stored for the winter or another time of year when this fresh flavor is unavailable.

[and yes, that's me hanging on the tree]

Tree is extremely tall, good amount of ripe cherries are being left to hang there until they fall apart or end up eaten by many insects.

With a heavy heart I said goodbye :(

We are super grateful to even have something to store, as the weather wasn't supportive at all. The cherry blossom period went by very quickly, it seems to me that I didn't even have time to take a picture. The final ending was that morning when I was greeted by a path of fallen flowers [sad scenario, but beautiful]

[me, circling around trying to find a solution, how to reach that branch]

In fact, the bees didn't even have time to pollinate all the flowers because that period was terribly rainy, cause of that we got less fruits, but bigger and juicier!

That fact made me quite happy, because pitting cherries is a very boring and long process, although we are having some kind of gadget but it's not working, at least not according to my expectations.🤣

I'll do it old time fashion, one by one.

Certainly half will be frozen with pits, one part will be prepared for instant use, and part will remain for yummy juice.
Two birds with one stone!

[cherry shower]

Although the fruits are gorgeous and huge, the flesh that is still firmly bound to the pit shows that ripening happens violently, with a few of the fruits that we removed already rotten on the branch - too much moist.

Same spot, spent here good amount of hours, did the cherries, also did a few shoots for one of the brands I am working with.

Who says that beautiful and useful cannot be combined?

The t-shirt is only for shooting; another downside of cherries is that they will brutally spray you with their juices, so get an apron or a spacesuit. 🙃

There is the gadget! Sitting there and being beautiful while I'm pitting, casually petting Tziki ,defending myself from flies and god knows what else didn't buzzed around my head.

It seems that the preserving season is starting slowly, similar thing will happen to all the fruits and vegetables on the property.
That's why we aim to have a little bit of everything, planting a sufficient amount for both, immediate usage and winter season.

And that's one of the advantages being on homestead, freedom to supply yourself as much as you wish, or the outer conditions allows you, downside is that you have to pull your sleeves up and makes it happen!
It's like being a cricket! 😂

You soak them in, if I got it right from the photo, and leave them to let go of juices or?

yes, you put them in a jar, add sugar and boiling water to it, and quickly close it and wrap it in a blanket. Drink cherry juice with pleasure in winter))

Hey Miss Mermelada, I have the same thing with mangoes. Or similar. The ones that are too high and I can't reach, the birds or the 🦇 feast on them and then they get pecked or bitten.
I have taken advantage of many and I have frozen a few bags of slices to make juice later or mermelada. I have also given many to my neighbours. Now the soursop tree has a lot of fruit and yesterday a giant soursop fell down. I'm going to make a smoothie right now.

Lindo día @alt3r ;)

And what about cherry-marmelade?🍒
...the set up of my dreams is a basement full of jars with conserved fruits and veggies from the garden, in all sorts of forms, shapes and taste!! Looks like you'll get there😊

(I am going to stop telling you every time how beautiful your garden set up looks, but thats what I am thinking every time anyway, now you know for good:))

🤤🤤🤤
Why now? I'm craving sweets! 😂 Marmelade will wait its next opportunity, planning on some juice 😉

[don't stop telling me that]

Yes it is, lots of Austro-Hungarian influence on the structure, including part of the yard tilled with bricks, and then lots of colors!

Above all that, it's practical, don't have to worry about mess. 😜
