NOT A WILD TURKEY FOR SURE ~ I Guess they were Looking to Hitch a Ride.

While I was headed to town this past week I saw these two turkeys walking down the side of the road, looking like they had a destination in mind. We see wild turkeys on a regular basis, and these birds looked nothing like the ones we see in the fields and woods all around us. They were colorful and a lot bigger and they didn't run or fly away when they spotted me.
It was early in the morning when I ran into them, literally, almost. As I pulled over to the side of the road to take some pictures of them, they crossed the pavement and headed directly to the car. I felt like they were coming to greet me.

As they approached, I was struck by their colorful plumage.

I got out of the car to get a better look at them and take some more pictures. They checked me out as I did them. My guess is that they had escaped from captivity and were enjoying their newfound freedom. The farmer's house and barn, which was just up the road a bit, was probably where they came from.
It seemed as though they were waiting for me to open the car door so they could hitch a ride.

I would've liked to get a few pics of them without having my car in the picture, but that was impossible. They were either very friendly or more likely they expected me to feed them. As I tried to get them to get away from the car, they just followed me.

We circled the car a few times, which was strange. I'm usually the one on the prey, but on this occasion, I was the one trying to escape their advance.

It was a good thing that the Easter Holiday was just around the corner and not Thanksgiving. 😁

Thankfully, it was Easter week, lol. The birds are stunning and you captured some great photos of them.

The array of colors that these domestic turkeys sported was beautiful. I've eaten wild turkey a few times and loved it. Unlike a domestic turkey the meat gotten from a wild turkey is all dark meat, including the breast meat. I find the dark meat on any turkey to be more favorable and not as dry.

Have a splendid day.

Those 2 probably had it with the boring languishing of captivity and decided it was time for an adventure. Little did they know adventure can lead to a dinner table not as a guest but as the main course for some Easter dinners! 🦃

That's funny. If I were not an honest guy, I could have opened the back door to the car and the darn things probably would have jumped right in.

How odd to see Turkeys on the road, wild or kept, I don't thnk we'd ever see them like this in the UK. Actually, I've never seen such a pretty turkey before, lucky for them, they escaped in the safe season of the year!!

Likewise with never seeing a pretty turkey. Living in the middle of no where does have its advantages. We may have to travel over an hour to get to a mall, but not taking your life into your hands every time you take a trip in the car is a wonderful thing. We get cows, turkey, deer, racoons, and many other animals crossing the road, but very few people.

I think that these guys wanted to be my best friends. They were a little too friendly for my liking as I need to constantly be backing up as they followed me around the car. I must admit that I was also a little frightened by their actions.

It's so beautiful. If I had seen it, I would have gotten out of the car and taken many pictures of it. Because I have never seen such a beautiful thing before today.

They sure were more beautiful than any other turkeys I've ever seen. When I first spotted them walking down the road I made a quick U-turn and snapped away.

Plump healthy looking Turkeys, the plumage very distinguished with tail feathers up on display, perhaps a little over friendly?

Visitors did look like they wished to escape with you !LOLZ

Living in the middle of nowhere doesn't lend itself to making new friends. A few new friends would have been a good thing, even if they are turkeys.
The size of these guys was astounding. We've purchased turkeys that have weighed over 20 pounds when we have the family coming over for Thanksgiving. I think these guys would have tipped the scale at over 30 pounds.

Thanks once again for the LOLZ my friend, your generosity is always greatly appreciated!

Ahahaha what a funny encounter! And they sure were happy to see you, that plummage seems like courtship display! :)

I thought that I was happy to see them, but they seemed overjoyed to see me. They probably thought that I was going to feed them. Good call on courtship display, I never thought of that. Just as long as they had their eyes on each other and not me.😁

You got some great shots of these beautiful wild turkeys. Amazing how tame theses ones are. Someone must have them tamed but I think the turkeys knew Easter was near and escaped. Lol I cooked a turkey for Easter but some cook ham.
I saw a wild Turkey in New Brunswick a few years ago and tried to snap a photo but it took off to the woods as fast as lightning.

They sure weren't afraid of me. They must be used to humans because the farmer probably brought them up as chicks. I hear you about how fast wild turkeys are. We see them all of the time and when they see us they can run through the woods very fast. You would think that they would be slow on their feet for being such a large bird.
