BIRDS OF MINI ZOO

I invite you to continue our excursion to the mini Zoo I've visited recently.

Of course, main birds are ostriches there.
They are the biggest one, and their number is close to 30.

We saw some other kinds of birds there, though there were not so many of them.
But, nevertheless they are cute and funny.

It's the brightest bird there - "diamond pheasant"

The Eastern Asia is his Motherland, but in the XIX cent he was brought to England as well. Now we see them anywhere.

It was super fast and it was hard to catch it!

Their friends are ducks;)
Ducks aren't afraid of people so much

and Hi to you from bosses of that place;)

I can't put into words the appearance of the bird in the first picture, I can only say it's really beautiful. But the others are beautiful too.

The Golden and Lady Amherst's Pheasant are incredibly beautiful. However, they are quite bloodthirsty predators, and I only learned this when I undertook to raise them. They are very similar to ordinary chickens, merciless and brutal to their co-captives as chicks. I gave up on raising them when one ate the brains of 23 of his fellows overnight.

Thanks!

Edit: Actually, I recall now that it was a Reeve's Pheasant that cannibalized his coopmates, while raccoons or bobcats did in for the Golden's and Lady Amherst's. While I lost my investment in the pheasant rearing business, I felt a sense of relief that I wasn't obligated to care for such monsters anymore.

Had I known then what I know now about the fierce battle for life faced by those chicks, I would have rethought my business plan. The vision of incomparably beautiful birds roaming freely on wooded property is quickly dashed by piles of peacock feathers near raccoon tracks, and the reason for the verdance of the forest rejects that aesthetic: life feeds on life, and most where life lives best. Free roaming game birds, no matter the electric blue, gold, and scarlet of their beauty, are quick snacks in fecund, feral forest they aren't adapted to.

Here Ruffed Grouse, wild Turkey, and Band-Tailed Pigeons have evolved with bobcats and foxes, and in the forest, while pheasants are generally evolved for grasslands, which installs a different suite of security software in their genes.

Considerable investment is required to raise such delicious birds, and free range unworkable absent effective barriers to wily predators. Just like slugs in the garden or birds at the berry crop, just more expensive crops.

I find ostriches to be quite scary. I have only ever met one in my life and they just seem to want to peck you all the time. Those ducks are adorable. There is a police station opposite my condo and the officers keep ducks in a pen that I can see from my balcony. They seem so peaceful and unbothered by people, like you say. There are chickens in the same pen and it is amusing to me that the ducks hang out with ducks and the chickens hang out with chickens. They don't seem to want to visit with the other kind of birds even though there are no barriers between them. They don't fight, they just don't seem at all interested in the other.
