testing auto focus on birds

So i got this new camera and lens normally not something to post about in a bird photography , but it has this special future .

When i go in the menu for auto focus i can select Birds as priority , it will auto focus on the birds eye how great is that .

you can also select human or animal but today i want to show you the birds .

and to make sure i would actually find some birds to test it , i knew this place where they keep birds in the garden .

It's at the place where my wife works so easy acces , i wanted to try this earlier this week and i almost made it until the rain started .

and eventough the camera and lens are weather proof that is to much rain to try it out .

Right the results of the birds , I've used google image search to identify the birds .

4 ) Geopelia cuneata / Diamond dove

5 ) canary and the Melopsittacus undulatus / Budgerigar / parakeet

Sony A7IV + SEL24105G ISO: 100 Focal length : 105mm F4.5 Speed : 1/125

6 )Melopsittacus undulatus / Budgerigar / parakeet i used to have one like this as a kid , until my sister forgot to close the cage ....

Sony A7IV + SEL24105G ISO: 100 Focal length : 105mm F5 Speed : 1/250

I must say it's amazing to see that incamera AI is able to track those eyes so well with auto focus.

And i have mostly been using MF the last 6 years , because i couldn't rely on AF , a specialy with macro photography .

Enjoy your new week

This is such a cool feature but from what I've read, it wasn't released to all newer Sony models.

And i have mostly been using MF the last 6 years

I use a Sony A6000 and the AF isn't the best but it's tolerable. Most of the time I opt for manual though too. I'm pretty quick with it so even for street stuff it doesn't bother me

i still have the a6000 here and the a7II , i have the helios - 44 on the a6000 in my bag and the Laowa 15mm f4 on the A7II and now the A7IV + SEL24105G as walk around , so i will still be using MF beside the AF .

I was running that Helios setup earlier at a festival and it was wonderful using the manual focus in such a lively location after using AF on a 35mm 1.8.

I've been looking at getting the a6700 to update, I was really on the fence of sticking with APS-C but I wouldn't mind it for video commercial jobs, especially with the vintage lenses or some consumer priced APS-C cine lenses like the Sirui ones

Wow, that bird eye autofocus sounds so cool! These shots turned out amazing, and it’s awesome that you could test it out easily near your wife’s workplace. The turquoise parrot and the budgie are so pretty!
