Northern Flicker Woodpecker

These little woodpeckers have a neat spotted pattern that seems to have many different tones and colors. They can be very quiet or very boisterous depending on what they are doing. I know from their sounds and squeaks when one is nearby; also, the jackhammer sound when they are pecking away at something is also a giveaway that they are close. I feel like they are around more often the last several years, as I can say it's at least a few times a week that I encounter them.
