Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 171 - Summer Photo.

During a visit to Farne Island in Northumberland, UK, we saw arctic terns, which are annual summer visitors to the island. Walking along the designated footpath, we were "greeted" by a loud shrill noise from the birds fiercely protecting their nests and young, warning us to stay away from their territory.

This is my entry to the Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 171 - Summer Photo.

They will literally dive bomb people if they go anywhere near their nests.

The terns nest on the ground so you'd think they'd nest away from the footpath but no! You just have to protect yourself while running the gauntlet.

At least you won't make the mistake of treading on a nest as the birds are so vocal you get forewarned to stay away!

Thank you to @nelinoeva and the @featheredfriends team.

We were one Inner Farne island a couple of weeks and got absolutely drenched. The heavens opened and would not stop for the hour! The artic terns though do divebomb your head, my wife was behind me and was laughing at how they kept pecking my hoodie hood!
