A piece of abandoned paradise on the shores of the Gulf of Thessaloniki, part one

While resting, sunbathing and swimming on the beach of Perea near Thessaloniki, I accumulated a lot of energy that needed to be used up.
Walking up and down the beach as far as the eye could see was my daily activity.

And so one day, when a few clouds appeared in the sky that lowered the temperature a little, I headed along the coast in the direction of the Thessaloniki airport. I wanted to take some photos of the plane taking off from as close as possible.
However, the fence of a complex prevented me from doing so.
And that complex is located right next to another complex that I would like to write about here.

Once it was probably a "heavenly" place to enjoy the beach, but today it is an abandoned, ruined and totally decayed place.

The low buildings were probably part of the beach bars, changing rooms and toilets, while today the rusted pillars carried canvases that provided shade in this area.

Pieces of the decayed and torn fabric of those awnings are still noticeable, which flutter ominously with every breath of wind.

That this was not a piece of concreted sandy beach is evidenced by these empty, neglected pools full of garbage.

There was a large parking lot on the side, and proof that this is not some abandoned region is also proved by the courtyard right next to this complex, where there is a fighter plane and a beautifully landscaped area.

The pool pits are there, there are also remnants of pipes from the pumping system that once purified the water in which the visitors of this complex bathed.

There is broken glass everywhere, and while I was taking photos of the interior of these decaying buildings, I was careful where I stood, so as not to injure myself because I was wearing flip-flops, and I carefully peeked into each room, so as not to disturb and frighten some homeless person who might have found free accommodation in those buildings.

There was not much to see here, so after a short research, I got off the concrete slab on which there was a lot of broken glass and went 20 m further, towards the sea where I bathed and refreshed myself.

This complex is just one of the abandoned buildings that I saw on that route, and I will write about the following on another occasion.

Nice exploration! Almost worthy of the legendary urban explorer @slobberchops!

Places like that abandoned seem wild to us northerners when real estate is so expensive and unavailable and the beach calls to us in the winter.

I'm glad that you find this abandoned building interesting, but a lot of water still needs to wash over the banks of Pere so that I can reach the quality and content of an urban explorer like slobberchops 😀

I think that, even with a tent, I could settle on the coast like it is in Greece, if not all year round, then at least for a few months, especially when winter arrives in our northern continental region.

Thanks 😀
I can't believe it's been three years already. Of course, when the company is good and socializing is interesting, time passes quickly 🙂
