Here's to a great landing always

Hello Hello Hivians and Hivers

"A good landing is any one ye can walk away fae. A great landing is when they can use the plane again the morra!"

The above quote is an old Scottish aviation joke from the early days of flying at Prestwick Airport on the west coast of Scotland.

As you may know I live in Scotland, so I thought it was fitting to have a Scottish theme in todays post on Airplanes.

Well thanks to the weekly contest from @qurator I can show you our local Scottish airline.

This airport is Kirkwall Airport which is in Kirkwall the capital of the Orkney Islands, off the north coast of Scotland.

The airline is Loganair and they do have fun tail patterns on their small turbo prop planes.

Awesome shots! I'm going to be on a plane myself in about a month. I'm not really looking forward to it, but it shouldn't be too big of an issue.

Oh nice one. I got burnt out on flying, more the airport process. I flew so much for work back in the day, could get dropped off at the airport in a taxi and be on the plane a few minutes later. Lol not now, it is a pain. Have a safe trip.

Yeah, I hear you there. I think it is the process in general that bugs me the most. I just feel like I am being herded like cattle.

Yes I remember the first time flying over there, you walked almost right up to the plane and had next to no process to go through, and that was an international flight!

Haha, yeah, it was a totally different world then! Even the first time I flew before 9/11 it was such a different experience.

Yes pre 9/11 was my sort of flying process. Now it is only when there is no other option lol

Nice shots! I used to fly a lot and now really don't miss it. But you have to love the views from the high altitudes. The most important part is you walked away from the landing, so it was a great one! lol

Yeah I used to take 10 flights a week at one point for a couple of years. I cannot stand flying now, so where I can I take a boat or train or don't bother lol. Yes coming to the USA will be the next time I fly but that will have been almost three years since last flight!

That’s the great Scots humour, I’ll share that with my colleague Colin who’s from Kinross and I’m sure he’ll chuckle.

Great photos and since watching videos about Loganair on Steve Marsh YouTube channel, they look like a great one to fly with.

Loganair is now owned by British Airways I think, but when I was living in Orkney as a teenager I went to boarding school in Edinburgh and got there via Loganair Islander planes, much smaller than those in the photos.

Yes it made me chuckle remembering about it! Happy New Year and may it bring what you wish

I would love to go island hopping, sounds rather adventurous but for many, such as yourself, it was just routine; a means to an end!

Yes you have to do what you have to do. They also operate the worlds shortest commercial flight of a few seconds lol.

I think I’ve seen a video on it but it’s very very weather dependent?

Interesting topic! And it's great that you keep all those photos. I would never think of keeping photos of airplanes. Hugs to you.
