Male Striped Lynx Spider (Oxyopes salticus)

These photos were taken with a smartphone's camera in a garden near my house. I captured a male lynx spider in its territory. This is Oxyopes salticus (Hentz, 1845), commonly known as the striped lynx spider.

This spider's habitat is easily found in grass or leafy vegetation, where it camouflages behind the leaves to ambush pollinators.

Male lynx spiders are quite easy to recognize. They have striking pedipalps that resemble dark boxing gloves and a small, pointed abdomen. The face features two stripes resembling whiskers, a characteristic seen in both males and females.
