Starting A Small Aquarium

This fish is likely an Eastern Mosquito Fish (Gambusia Holbrooki), the quality of the photo is quite low.

After a few years of learning to become a little more self-sufficient, I have finally turned to possibly raising my own "seafood". Honestly, growing up I haven't been too interested in having a terrarium or an aquarium but I was interested in animals and plants in general. As you've seen from my other posts, I've gotten quite well at gardening and raising some crops. To test my skills even further, I wanted to try to raise some animals. Of course, I've had dogs and cats as pets before, but I've never had fish with the explicit purpose to breed them for food. Essentially, I'm trying to 'farm' some aquatic animals, not keep them as pets.

Right now, for my first 5-gallon tank, I'm starting small with some locally caught (by me) snails, mussels some Mosquito Fish (not to be consumed by me). The plan is to get a much larger tank so I can house much larger freshwater fish. The smaller fish, as they get older, will be fed to the larger fish. I'll keep the tanks separate for the explicit purpose of using the smaller fish as feeders. If any cool or unexpected mutations happen, I'll be sharing them too.

Also, this isn't just an experiment in farming, but also in creating a self-sustainable aquarium with absolutely no filter, and little artificial light (from room ceiling light). It's purely a no-tech/filter-less tank. This will be the second time I've attempted this, but I think this time around I have found a temporary balance.
