Good day dear Hive community, I hope you are all well and you had a day full of positive experiences! Today I would like to bring a mineral a little closer and hope you will be able to expand your knowledge about this interesting topic.

You can see here a specimen of a rare mineral which is also known as zeophyllite and it was named after the Greek words zeo for boil and phýllon for leaf which refers to the crystal structure which can somewhat resemble leaves that change and start to swell due to the influence of heat. It was first described at the beginning of the 20th century by the Austrian mineralogist Anton Pelikan (1861 - 1918) who was born as the son of a gold and silversmith and he developed a strong interest in minerals in his life and during his life he published many writings about this topic where he shared his scientific views and was also a member of many associations and societies that had specialized in minerals. The mineral has already been discovered before, but not yet described and the formation can be traced back to a hydrothermal way and it can usually be found as a product that is produced by weathering and due to the rarity it is not of economic interest and it is particularly popular among collectors or serves for research purposes. It is also counted to the class of silicates and germanates and often found together with other minerals such as calcite or phillipsite and the appearance of the crystals is often white and pearl-like and there are just over 30 documented places of discovery worldwide and the most important include Germany, the Czech Republic, USA and Japan.
