The Ecological benefits of Asters

Hey dear Hive community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day that brought one or the other positive experience into your life! In this post, I would like to talk about the ecological benefits of an enchanting plant and hope you can expand your knowledge.

Asters can be seen here and depending on the species, the flowering period can vary and already start from spring and other others only bloom at the end of the year as well as this species which can be seen in my pictures. Asters are usually very easy to care for and hardy and thrive best on nutrient-rich soil as well as in shady or sunny locations and do not take up too much space due to the compact size. Due to the late flowering period, some species are well suited to provide insects with a source of food when many others have already faded. The flowering period extends over a longer period of time and due to the numerous different varieties in all possible colors, it is also visually a perfect enrichment and is highly recommended for anyone who values ecological gardens. If you want to create an ecological garden, it is best to plant more different insect-friendly species and offer food to the insect world as diverse as possible.

Asters are particularly visited by bees, but caterpillars, butterflies, bumblebees and other insects also find a good source of food here and also for the wild bee, which is threatened with extinction in some places, some species could be useful. Due to the long flowering period, it offers some insects a source of pollen and nectar for almost 2 months or longer and it is interesting to see that the flowers close in the evening hours. However, it is also important to know that some species are invasive and could be dangerous to native plants and therefore you should always pay attention to the choice of the right varieties and some insects almost only feed on native wild plants and no longer find food in some breeding varieties. The best time to plant asters is spring and it is also a good time for propagation, but this is still possible in autumn and it can be multiplied by looking, division or cuttings.
