Here you can see a work of art painted with oil by the artist Otto Hellmeier (1908 - 1996) and is supposed to express Lake Lugano and with the right scenery he has created a very authentic work. His painting style is at an extremely high level and I really like how he managed to create a work with the right colors as well as the right stylistic devices that just looks extremely authentic and leaves pretty much no detail open and I think this work of art is a good way to go into the history of this lake. Lake Lugano is located in Switzerland for the most part in the canton of Ticino and a part of it even extends to Italy and on the lake there are numerous enchanting places that have often been inhabited by artists in the past and those who are interested in artist locations are probably best in Carona and around the lake there are numerous interesting sights or activities. The first traces can already be traced back to the ice age and it is assumed that it was created by various glaciers that hit each other at that time. The current name is also derived from the city of Lugano and the Italian name is also Lago di Lugano and the first mentions can already be traced back to the year 600 where it was still mentioned under the name Ceresium and it is not exactly clear what the exact meaning of this name is and it was also mentioned under the name Laco Luanasco. There are also numerous traces that the Roman Empire had some settlements there at the time and the first documented traces of the Romans can be traced back to the 1st century BC and the Romans had probably some bases there. During the Middle Ages, the area was then witness by violent military conflicts between Milan and Como, which were to last for almost 10 years and at that time it was about the dominance of important trade routes that had affected the sea as well as the Alps. During the Middle Ages, numerous buildings such as castles were built there and during this time Lake Lugano became more and more an important location and disputes often arose over the rule. In the 16th century, the rule was divided into different houses and at the beginning of the 19th century was the Italian area part of the Habsburg Empire. During the time of the industrial revolution, there were also some changes and some buildings were built that were supposed to get the tourism industry going and there were also new roads being built that were supposed to expand access to the villages.
