Fayalite Mineral
Dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you are all well! Today I would like to bring a new mineral a little closer and hope you can expand your knowledge a little.
Today I had the opportunity to photograph two specimens of the mineral fayalite, which also belongs to the mineral class of silicates and germanates. Fayalite is relatively rare and it has been found out that it is an interesting source of rare metals and this is an important discovery because rare earths are extremely important due to the rarity, new resources are always of interest and it is of great importance for many high-tech applications. The first description of fayalite goes back to the German chemist and professor Christian Gottlob Gmelin (1792 - 1860) who found the mineral in the middle of the 19th century and named it after the Portuguese island of Ilha do Faial where he had found the mineral. The formation can be traced back to volcanic activities and worldwide it has already been found in about 400 different places and in addition there are discoveries of the mineral on meteorites as well as the moon. Among the best-known places on earth are Finland, Italy, Portugal, Egypt or Romania and it is usually found together with other minerals such as Quartz, Garnet or Augurite. The crystals have a prismatic appearance and the shine is somewhat reminiscent of glass and it was found that the mineral can react to high temperatures in interaction with oxygen. Depending on the quality of the specimen, it is also of interest for the production of jewelry and chains, rings or other jewelry are often made from it, but here you always have to know that the color is often artificially changed and you should resort to a seller of trust to get the most possible natural quality.
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about this interesting topic! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
Its appearance is similar to the other one I have already read about it.
Thanks for the comment
The mineral might look abundance but they look so scarce
Thanks for your feedback :) I personally don’t think it looks creepy.
