Euchroite Mineral
Hey dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you have a pleasant weekend and day! In this post, I would like to bring a mineral a little closer and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
In my pictures you can see two different specimens of the mineral Euchroite which I would describe as a rather rarer mineral which belongs to the mineral class of arsenates, vanadates and phosphates. What is probably noticeable first is the typical green color, which is due to the high content of copper and it was first described by the German mineralogist August Breithaupt (1791 - 1873), who is known to have discovered and researched over 40 different minerals and he has also published some writings. In this Mineral, he referred to the Greek word Eukhroia, which means well colored and characteristics of Euchroite are the slightly translucent or transparent appearance and also the surface of the crystals which have a glass-like appearance. Euchroite is produced in the oxidation zone of copper-containing deposits and it is usually found together with other copper minerals such as malachite, olivenite or azurite and it has only been found at about 30 locations worldwide. This specimen originally probably comes from Slovakia from Lubietova and this mining area has been very well known since the Bronze Age and other noteworthy places of discovery are Australia, South America, Italy, USA or Greece. In the past, it was also used as a pigment and otherwise there is are economic uses due to the rarity and if you are generally interested in minerals and colors, I can recommend this article here.
