Chaos in Alchemy
Hey dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day that was full of positive experiences! In this article, I would like to devote myself to alchemy again and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
As in mythology, also in alchemy, the understanding of chaos when it comes to the principle of creation is of great importance and is also described as the beginning of matter or the original substance of origin and is often also considered as a metaphor for materia prima, which means the first matter. The chaos is also associated in alchemy with the female aspects of creation and according to occult views everything begins with darkness in which the world was created and the chaos is composed of various elementary characteristics and aspects and is closely associated with occult faith and there was talk of a new world that was created and once, Satan have fallen to the ground and what he saw was a dark and empty nothing which was increasingly filled with different buildings and this was also the emergence of a new race which was also seen as a heritage of Satan. It is also sometimes considered as a new beginning of humanity after the previous one was once destroyed and then all survivors were expelled into the darkness where access to the light was blocked and at the beginning everything was also associated with the element fire or the heat of the interior of the earth and the basis was heat and drought. There is also the philosophy that volcanic eruptions are the result of workshops that are active in the interior of the earth and the chaos was also considered in this context as an underworld or burning hell in which the things such as metals or rocks found on earth were were first boiled and then reached the upper part of the earth and according to this thought, the origin of the material plane is in the underworld.
This was also an important metaphor for transformation and the philosophy of the underworld has also shaped alchemy in other respects and in old writings often appears that you should have to visit the interior of the earth to find the Philosopher's Stone. The underground mines are also considered as the source of the celestial bodies such as the sun or the moon and there are different meanings as well as interpreters and also some influences from Roman and Greek mythology have been incorporated into the understanding of the chaos in alchemy and according to this view, the god of blacksmithing Vulcan is said to have its forge inside a volcano and he is also sometimes considered the father of alchemy. Often there is also talk of seeds as a base which should fertilize the earth and is considered an important part of the formation and the various forces that were ignited during the chaos, were united and put together into a whole and this formation is also often associated with the transition of darkness into the light and also the light bringer Lucifer is associated with the chaos. The well-known snake ouroboros which bites itself in the tail is also often associated with the emergence as well as destruction and subsequent new creation of the world and is considered a symbol of the philosophy of chaos in alchemy and for the general understanding it is important that chaos cannot be considered as a pure principle of creation and often originated from a pre-existing world and the end of time, is considered the beginning of time.
Thank you for the visit and I hope you could learn something new about alchemy! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
Another interesting one!! I'm fascinated by the symbolism and connection. You have amazing contents on natures you seem to be well grounded in scientific stuff and mythology.
