Parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera)

Hey dear Hiveans, hopefully you are all doing relatively well and you had a day that was full of positive experiences! Here I would like to present pictures of a mushroom and go into it and hope you can learn something new.

You can see here pictures of an edible mushroom which is also known as parasol mushroom or scientifically Macrolepiota procera. Parasol mushrooms can usually grow alone or in groups and can be found from about July, but of course this always depends on the weather, during long dry periods it is rather rarer to find some mushrooms. Interesting locations are forests or on the edges of the road and the most important identification characteristics include the round hat, which can be seen in young mushrooms and when the fungus gets older, the hat opens more. On the surface of the hat there are usually flakes and on the stem there is often a ring, which can often be seen directly on the underside of the hat and the slats typically have a white color.

Other distinguishing characteristics are the fragrance, which I have stated as relative pleasant and nutty and it is very important to note these characteristics because there are toxic doubles such as the false parasol or the panther mushroom. If you are not 100% sure, you should always leave the mushroom anyway and ask someone for advice when it comes to the correct identification! The parasol mushroom can be found in Europe, America, Asia as well as in some parts of Africa and this mushroom is also strongly rooted in mythology and according to legends it grows near places where fairies have often stayed. Due to the umbrella-like appearance, it is often also seen as a protective symbol and it also plays an important role in Buddhist mythology.
