Ecological benefits of the Seabed
Hello dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day that was full of positive experiences! Today I would like to talk about nature and hope you can learn something new.
Here are some pictures that are supposed to represent the bottom of waters and in mythology it is often associated with mysticism and it is appreciated as the place of residence of beings such as water nymphs as well as a place of sunken treasures or even mysterious cities like Atlantis. Even if you could not guess it at first glance, you will find a huge basis for different living beings there and the part of an ecosystem within waters inhabited by living beings is also known under the name Benthos, which is derived from the Greek from the word Benthon for depth and also the Greek poet Homer already described the importance in his work Iliad. Living beings that grow or live there are of great importance for photosynthesis and plants that grow there need light to be able to start this process and therefore photosynthesis is often only possible up to a maximum depth of a few hundred meters. Benthic living beings are also of great importance as a food source and provide numerous living beings an important basis and without this the natural food chain would no longer work and living beings that live there will be defined on the basis of their mobility. Ever greater pollution of the water such as contamination with various pollutants and which in turn has the result that the oxygen content of water bodies is changing more and more and the view to the bottom of the water has changed greatly and often you can often see only a few meters in depth. It was quickly recognized what valuable materials could be located under the seabed and that is why it is becoming more and more lucrative for deep sea mining, but there are also some hurdles here when it comes to the living beings of the waters and the consequences are still not fully aware and too little researched, however, it could have serious effects on the natural cycle. There are many factors that have an influence on the deabed and lead to ever-increasing problems and often are topics like overfishing or changes in the climate a reason and it is an often underestimated topic about which it is definitely important to think about.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
