Greetings Dear Art Appreciators;

Hope you are well and enjoying a fine day wherever you are.
This Watercolour.... 'Tulips, Pears, and the Bleu' showcases together subjects often seen in Bleujay's paintings..tulips and pears. The opportunity to pair them with bleu patterned ware presented itself and the ideas started rolling in.
First, set up a still life in the studio....take photographs. Select colours...the bleu and the green were a given....however the colour of the tulips was not so straight forward. It came down to deciding which colour was most likely to complement the bleu and the green.
Secondly, drawing a composition from the still life and then transfering that drawing to Watercolour paper before any painting can begin, Many times I do appreciate being able to work a study/ or small part of the painting separately in order to determine colours, medium, etc.

The materials used; D'Arches Watercolour paper 140lb, Winsor&Newton Watercolour Professional paint tubes....Sable Watercolour brushes.....Graphite Drawing pencil 6B.
Size of work in the lead photograph...28x38cm/11x15in.

I love watercolors. All the objects and colors in the picture are wonderful. The blue patterned ware, small jug is so cute.
The pears look nice and juicy. I like the plates you chose.
You pose a dilemma: are pears tastier when cut with a knife or bitten into?
I follow your posts, and my absolute favorite is 'Pears and Grapes'. I also enjoy 'Pears on a Tray', 'Study of Fruit', and 'Study of Pears and Domino Ware'..

To answer your delightful query....Bleujay being Bleujay would find most anything is tastier served elegantly....therefore, yes...when cut with a knife....however if I should find myself picking pears in an orchard in France on a lovely warm day...who could say that such a pear eaten without a knife in such a place would not be the tastiest pear...they had ever had. Enjoyed thinking on your kind query.

Beautiful picture and even better painting. The drawing in between the two pears had a very beautiful detailed pattern. I don't know long it took, but it must've taken a while. Plus, I don't know if it was the pattern on the plate thst was as intricate as the one on the drawing, but it's lovely, and adding the paint looked like a delicate process as well.

That is the way of it...when a painting/ drawing is in progress, one must be flexible as in this case...I realised the jug was too busy for the overall composition. Painting the jug was a delicate process as you say...because it seems out of one's control with Watercolour.....but you carry on and hope once it dries it is to your liking. ^__^

I have used watercolor in the past, when the painting is not dried, it's chaotic and rough until it finally dries. How long did spend on this one?

This is the case @bleujay, when I have to evaluate two incompatible things and give my preference to one of them and I am talking about pears, which overshadowed tulips in your watercolor :)
No, this does not mean that tulips are less beautifully depicted by your brush, but there is something special in pears, which is difficult to find a word for, I will simply say - they are magnificent!

One of the subjects must dominate...right? ....and yes...it was intended for the pears to win....however the colour of the tulips certainly give the pears a challenge. ^__^

Your works are always great but this one keeps drawing my eyes back. The specs/imperfections on the pear are so perfect. Almost makes them pop off the page for the contrasted realism!

Wow, it made me very happy to see this, it stirred my heart in such a way. It is reminiscent of something I have seen a long time ago... Also, Japanese porcelain as well, which is funny; I just finished a novel set in WWII Japan 😄
