Największa szopka w Europie / Largest nativity scene in Europe

Na majówkę uciekam od tłumów. Mogłabym zostać w domu, ale wybieram Czechy. Tym razem znalazłam się w małej wsi Vísky na Morawach Południowych. Miejsce raczej nie jest turystyczne. Na wikipedii jest o niej tylko jedno zdanie. Ja postaram się dorzucić dzisiaj jeszcze kilka.

I'm getting away from the crowds for bank holiday in Poland in May. I could stay at home, but I choose the Czech Republic. This time I found myself in the small village of Vísky in South Moravia. The place is hardly a tourist destination. There is only one sentence about it on wikipedia. I will try to add a few more today.

W tle znajduje się kościół św. Michała, który pochodzi z przełomu XII/XIII wieku, ale potem był przebudowywane. W wieży znajdują się dwa dzwony jeden z 1689 roku a drugi z 1726. Kościół znajduje się w rejestrze zabytków.

Ale to nie kościół był powodem, dla którego postanowiliśmy zatrzymać się po drodze, a rzeźby z piaskowca, które tworzą ponoć największą szopkę w Europie. Liczy ona 40 rzeźb na powierzchni 1200 m2.

In the background is St Michael's Church, which dates from the turn of the 12th/ 13th century but was later rebuilt. There are two bells in the tower, one from 1689 and the other from 1726, and the church is on the register of historical monuments.

But it wasn't the church that was the reason we decided to stop along the way, but the sandstone sculptures that make up what is said to be the largest nativity scene in Europe. It counts 40 sculptures over an area of 1,200 m2.

Jej powstanie datuje się na 2010 po narodzinach Chrystusa. Rzeźby są tak ustawione, że idzie się pod górkę w stronę żłóbka razem z innymi rzeźbami. I stamtąd jest najlepszy widok na okolicę.

Its creation dates to 2010 after the birth of Christ. The sculptures are positioned in such a way that you walk uphill towards the manger together with the other sculptures. And from there you have the best view of the area.

Niektóre rzeźby przedstawiają prawdziwe postaci ważne dla tego regionu czy też wsi. Nie doczytałam się kto jest twórcą, ale wygląda na to, że dzieło to ma wielu autorów. Także niektórzy oglądają rzeźby Černého w Pradze, a inni szopkę w Vískach.

Some of the sculptures depict real figures important to the region or village. I didn't get to read who the creator is, but it looks like the work has many authors. Also, some people see Černého's sculptures in Prague and others see the nativity scene in Vísky.

I tak znowu naszła mnie refleksja... piękne miejsce, ciekawe rzeźby, ale o tym miejscu się nie pisze ani nie mówi. Z drugiej strony mnie to cieszy, bo tam gdzie dociera masowa turystyka, to te miejsca tracą swój urok. 

Nie musicie jechać do Czech. Naprawdę czasem wystarczy się dobrze rozejrzeć po swojej okolicy, by znaleźć takie miejsca. I do tego ciągle zachęcam. Niech Zakopane czy Praga sobie odpoczną trochę.

And so a thought occurred to me again.... A beautiful place, interesting sculptures, but this place is not written or talked about. On the other hand, I am glad about this, because where mass tourism arrives, these places lose their charm.

You don't have to go to the Czech Republic. It really is sometimes enough to have a good look around in your area to find such places. And this is what I keep encouraging you to do. Let Zakopane or Prague have a little rest.
