From the point of view of evolution, the only reason we live so long is so that we can replace ourselves as effectively as possible. Take, for instance:
• Mice can live for two to three years. They devote the vast majority of their resources to having many offspring as quickly as possible, and they put very little effort into maintaining their bodies.
• Whales can live as long as they want because they are at the very top of the food chain, which allows them to do so. This allows them to live for hundreds of years. Therefore, they have a low reproductive rate in order to construct a body that is durable. We, as humans, fall somewhere in the middle of the rodent and mammal spectrum.
There is no upper limit to the human lifespan when viewed from a biological standpoint. There is nothing in the natural world that mandates the demise of living things.
