El vermut, un licor aromático elaborado con la combinación de vino, ajenjo y especias, es mucho más que una simple bebida: es un símbolo cultural. La ciudad de Reus en la provincia de Tarragona, es la capital indiscutible del vermut en España, donde esta tradición se ha convertido en parte del patrimonio gastronómico local. En Reus, elaborar vermut no es un oficio, es un arte transmitido de generación en generación. Marcas centenarias como Rofes o Miró han contribuido a posicionar el vermut de Reus como uno de los más prestigiosos del mundo. El Museo del Vermut, con su impresionante colección de más de 200 variedades, es testimonio de esta rica herencia.

La hora del vermut es hacia las doce de la mañana, antes de la comida y es costumbre ir a tomarlo a la icónica plaça del mercdal (plaza del mercado). Mientras degustas el vermut, disfrutas de las vistas de la plaza rodeado de una impresionante arquitectura modernista, como la conocida casa Navàs. Siempre pido vermut rojo y lo sirven con hielo una aceituna ensertada en un palillo y una rodaja de naranja. También es muy típico pedirlo con sifón, gaseosa o fanta de limón. Para picar algo con la bebida, lo típico son unas aceituna y unas patatas fritas, pero se puede pedir algo más elaborado como chipirones o patatas bravas.

Hacia mucho tiempo que no disfrutaba tomando un vermut en Reus en la mejor compañía del mundo. Un auténtico placer que recomiendo hacer por lo menos una vez en la vida si se tiene la posbilidad.

I always order red vermouth and they serve it with ice, an olive on a stick and a slice of orange. It is also very typical to order it with soda, soda pop or lemon Fanta. For a snack with the drink, typical are olives and chips, but you can also order something more elaborate like chipirones or patatas bravas.

It's been a long time since I've enjoyed having a vermouth in Reus in the best company in the world. A real pleasure that I recommend to do at least once in your life if you have the chance.
