CCC's Street Art Contest #286 - Symbols of My City / Símbolos de mi Ciudad

In reality, there are not many examples of urban art in my city, but in recent years, thanks to government support, attempts have been made to recover spaces that seemed to have been completely forgotten. This is how many gray and ugly walls have been transformed into places with their own colors. The initiative to create this type of art is being promoted in order to enhance our regional values, with the aim of keeping our identity, our roots, and therefore our culture alive.

Realmente, dentro de mi ciudad no existen muchas muestras de arte urbano, pero en los últimos años, gracias al apoyo gubernamental, se han intentado recuperar espacios que parecían estar en el completo olvido. Es de esta forma como muchas paredes grises y feas se han ido transformando en lugares con colores propios. La iniciativa de generar este tipo de arte está siendo impulsada en pro del realce de nuestros valores regionalistas, con el fin de mantener viva nuestra identidad, nuestras raíces y, por lo tanto, nuestra cultura.

While I was walking down 3rd Street between 7th and 6th Avenues, in the heart of the city of La Fría, I came across this renovated space. A place that was once occupied by a simple, unattractive wall, but which is now a living testimony to our identity, as three main images are revealed against the warm colors typical of the sun in this region and the blue hues of the torrential rains that periodically bathe us. The first image is of the historic Ferrocarril de los Andes, an infrastructure of which only memories remain, but which drove the development of this and many other cities in the area. Next to it is the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, showing us that we are in a deeply Catholic town, and next to it is the image of the parish church, a more modern temple compared to those that surround us.

Mientras me encontraba caminando por la calle 3 en tres carreras 7 y 6, en el pleno corazón de la ciudad de La Fría, me encontré con este espacio renovado. Un lugar que antes estaba ocupado por una pared simple y sin gracia, pero que ahora es el testimonio vivo de nuestra identidad, pues sobre los colores cálidos típicos del Sol de esta región y con los matices azules de las lluvias torrenciales que suelen bañarnos periódicamente se develan tres imágenes principales, iniciando por el histórico Ferrocarril de los Andes, una infraestructura de la cual sólo queda el recuerdo, pero que impulsó el desarrollo de esta y muchas otras ciudades de esta zona, por otro lado la imagen del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús demostrándonos que nos encontramos en un pueblo profundamente católico y al lado de este la imagen de la iglesia parroquial, un templo de características más modernas si lo comparamos con aquellos que nos circundan en los pueblos vecinos, por lo tanto nos demuestra que estamos frente a una ciudad relativamente nueva y que mira hacia adelante.

The nature of this region is represented in the flowers, palm trees, and the delicate blue of a wax that, in my opinion, could symbolize the rivers that flow through this land from one side to the other, filling us with their grace and showing us that, despite urban development, nature always prevails. Unfortunately, I do not know the author of this impeccable work, but I have no doubt that they did an excellent job, since it is not only a type of art with an incredible combination of elements, but it also manages to convey profound values and makes us feel proud of our roots and our people.

La naturaleza propia de esta región se encuentra representada en las flores, las palmeras y el fino azul de una cera que pudiera, desde mi punto de vista, simbolizar los ríos que irrumpen esta tierra de un lado a otro, llenándonos con su gracia y demostrándonos que, del avance urbano, la naturaleza siempre prevalece. Desafortunadamente, desconozco el autor de esta impecable obra, pero sin duda alguna creo que realizó un trabajo excelente, puesto que no solo se trata de un tipo de arte con una combinación increíble de elementos, sino que logra transmitir valores profundos y nos hace sentir orgullosos de nuestras raíces y de nuestro gentilicio.
