La Candelaria is one of the 22 parishes of the Libertador Municipality, in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, close to the center of Caracas. The Parish is eminently commercial, its buildings are a combination of old houses with modern buildings, it was declared a parish in 1750.

The two squares
In the geographical area of the Candelaria Parish there are two squares joined like Siamese twins. These squares are curious because they are two in one, Urdaneta to the north and Candelaria to the south. Both squares are joined to each other without a clear demarcation that separates them. This makes many inhabitants of the city confuse them as one, but in reality they are two squares.

En el ámbito geográfico de la Parroquia la Candelaria se encuentran dos plazas unidas como gemelos siameses, estas plazas tienen la curiosidad que son dos en una,la Urdaneta al norte y la Candelaria al sur, ambas plazas están unidas una a la otra sin una demarcación clara que las separen, esto hace que muchos habitantes de la ciudad las confundan como una sola, pero en realidad son dos plazas.

Plaza La Candelaria is located on Urdaneta Avenue in Caracas. It is a place full of history and culture. Its inauguration took place in 1708. It was conceived for rest, recreation, to provide shade, calm and tranquility to the inhabitants, which is why the presence of many trees and vegetation is observed.

La Plaza La Candelaria está ubicada en la avenida Urdaneta en Caracas, es un lugar lleno de historia y cultura. Su inauguración ocurrió en 1708. Fue concebida para el descanso, la recreación, para brindar sombras, sosiego y tranquilidad a los habitantes, por eso se observa la presencia de muchos árboles y vegetación.

The Church of Our Lady of Candelaria:
The church is one of the most outstanding points of the square, its construction began in 1703 and was completed in 1708, at the end of the 17th century, its main element is that it houses the remains of Doctor José Gregorio Hernández, a highly revered doctor in Venezuela, who was canonized by the Catholic Church on February 25, 2025. The church is the center of the festivities in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, which are celebrated every February 2.
La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria:
La iglesia es uno de los puntos más destacados de la plaza, su construcción se inició en 1703 y concluida en 1708, a finales del siglo XVII, tiene como elemento principal que en ella se encuentra los restos del Doctor José Gregorio Hernández, un médico muy reverenciado en Venezuela, el día 25-02-25 fue canonizado por la Iglesia católica. La iglesia es el centro de las festividades en honor a la Virgen de la Candelaria, que se celebran cada 2 de febrero.

This is the second plaza we will cover, located between the corners of Candilito and Urupal, it was inaugurated on December 11, 1955.

It has an underground parking lot for about 300 vehicles, and a small building on top that functions as an acoustic shell for cultural events. In front is the Civil Registry building.
