"Flying to Madrid".

Good morning community of women warriors of these times.

If I were given the chance to go on a trip I would not think twice: I am flying to Madrid. But I'm not going alone, I'm taking my aunt with me on this trip.

"Volando a Madrid".

Buen día comunidad de mujeres guerreras de estos tiempos.

Si se me concediera la posibilidad de realizar un viaje no lo pensaría dos veces: me voy volando a Madrid. Pero no voy sola, en este viaje conmigo me llevo a mi tía.

My only maternal aunt, my second mother with whom I have lived all my life, has been an important part in the formation of the person I am today. She is known by the name Adelita, a diminutive of my grandmother's name, which they adopted to tell her because she was the first born.
She now counts 73 laps of the sun and tomorrow it will be three years since she saw her only son leave for the capital of Spain to join his wife.
These years of the pandemic have prevented people from physically bonding, this has affected the family and we have not escaped this situation.

Mi única tía materna, mi segunda madre con quien he convivido toda mi existencia, ha sido una parte importante en la formación de la persona que hoy soy. Se le conoce por el nombre de Adelita, diminutivo del nombre de mi abuela, el cual adoptaron decirle por ser la primogénita.
Cuenta ya 73 vueltas al sol y mañana se cumplirán tres años que vio partir a su único hijo hacia la capital de España para unirse a su esposa.
Estos años de pandemia han impedido el vínculo físico de las personas, esto ha afectado mucho en el ámbito familiar y nosotros no hemos escapado a esta situación.

My family has always been very close and the happiness of one has repercussions on the others, as well as the problems and worries. Manolito, my cousin, who is like my brother too, has been physically separated from us all this time and although nowadays thanks to the Internet we can be in constant communication, we lack the warmth of the embrace; the smell of his walk; the live colour and not the one offered through the screen and the voice that caresses the ear a few centimetres away; we lack that kiss that fills the soul.
My aunt had only one child, only one marriage and when my cousin was very young she divorced. Her whole life was focused on my cousin's wellbeing and although he is now a very mature man, this separation has cost him a lot of pain. He had a hard time going through the empty nest syndrome, because not only did his son leave home, but he has not even returned for a visit.

Mi familia ha sido siempre muy unida y la felicidad de uno repercute en los otros, así como los problemas y preocupaciones. Manolito, mi primo, que es como mi hermano también, ha estado separado físicamente de nosotros todo este tiempo y aunque en la actualidad gracias a la Internet podemos estar en constante comunicación, falta el calor del abrazo; el olor de su andar; el color en vivo y no el que se ofrece a través de la pantalla y la voz que acaricia el oído a pocos centímetros de distancia; falta ese beso que llena al alma.
Mi tía solo tuvo un hijo, solamente tuvo un matrimonio y cuando mi primo era muy pequeño se divorció. Toda su vida se enfocó al bienestar de mi primo y aunque es ya un hombre bien maduro, le ha costado mucho dolor esta separación. Le tocó bien duro atravesar el síndrome del nido vacío, pues no solo su hijo salió de casa, sino que no ha regresado ni de visita.

I take my aunt with me in my suitcase if I have to. I'll take her to her son, so she can feel his kiss, his embrace, his voice, his eyes, his smell again. I'll give her a hug too, not one, but many more.... But nothing will be more comforting than to witness this family reunion of mother and son in which both parties have suffered for not being physically present in moments of joy, and also of illness.
Come on, woman, get up and pack your bags, we're going to Madrid!

Me llevo en la maleta a mi tía si es preciso. La llevo donde su hijo, para que pueda volver a sentir su beso, su abrazo, su voz, sus ojos, su olor. Yo también le daré un abrazo, uno no, muchos más... Pero nada será más reconfortante que presenciar esta reunión familiar de madre - hijo en la que las dos partes han sufrido por no estar físicamente a su encuentro en momentos de alegría, y también de enfermedad.

¡Vamos, mujer, levántate y haz la maleta!¡Nos vamos a Madrid!.
