Fungi Friday. A find near the doorstep

| Hi, friends! As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, finding mushrooms in winter isn’t easy, especially if you don’t go to the forest. But sometimes, you don’t have to go far. A great example is a wooden stump right in front of my terrace steps. There used to be a young apple tree there, but we had to cut it down because it was growing exactly where the steps ended, making it hard to walk. Over time, a fascinating mushroom started growing on the stump—Turkey Tail or Trametes versicolor. It got its name from its striped coloration, resembling a turkey’s tail feathers. This mushroom has been growing there for several years, and the stump itself is almost completely decayed, so soon, both it and the mushroom will be gone. I decided to take a photo to capture the memory. In spring, I’ll have to remove the stump—my wife has been asking me to do it for a while, and we sometimes trip over it. | Привіт, друзі! Як я вже писав у попередніх дописах, узимку знайти гриби непросто, особливо якщо нікуди не ходити до лісу. Але іноді далеко йти не треба. Яскравий приклад – дерев’яний пеньочок прямо перед моїми сходами на терасу. Колись там росла молода яблуня, але її довелося зрізати, бо вона знаходилася саме в тому місці, де закінчуються сходи. Вона б просто заважала нам ходити. З часом на пеньку почав рости дуже цікавий гриб – індичий хвіст або ж Траметес різнобарвний (Trametes versicolor). Свою назву він отримав через смугасте забарвлення, схоже на пір’я індичого хвоста. Цей гриб росте там уже кілька років, а сам пеньок майже розсипався, тому скоро і йому, і грибу настане гаплик. Я вирішив його сфотографувати, щоб зафіксувати на згадку. Навесні пеньок доведеться викорчувати – дружина вже давно мене про це просить, та й іноді ми за нього перечіпляємося. |

| While photographing Trametes versicolor, I spotted another find in the grass—a polypore that looks like Chaga. It was almost completely hidden in the overgrown grass. I broke it off the stump, but identifying it with certainty is difficult. These are my mushroom-hunting trophies for this Friday! 🍄 | А поки фотографував Trametes versicolor, помітив у траві ще одну знахідку – трутовик, схожий на чагу. Він був майже повністю захований у зарослій траві. Відламав його від пенька, але точно ідентифікувати важко. Ось такі в мене сьогодні трофеї для грибної п’ятниці! 🍄 |
