Visiting "La Coroba" Square, a monument to our local fruit.

Quiero compartir con ustedes la visita que hice el día de hoy a el monumento de la Coroba, ubicada en una de las avenidas principales de la zona, prácticamente a tiro de piedra del río Orinoco, lo que la convierte en un punto de referencia obligatorio bien sea que se venga entrando por la Troncal 19, o si vienes llegando desde el Estado Guarico, te topas con el monumento casi sin querer.
Llegar al lugar es facilísimo, se puede ir ir caminando por la orilla del rio, mientras se disfruta elvambiente, o en carro, o en moto.
El monumento tiene el majestuoso Orinoco como fondo, lo que le da un atractivo bellísimo que resalta a simple vista.
Para los lugareños, este no es simplemente un adorno en medio del espacio público, sino que tiene un gran valor sentimental y peso cultural, ya que es la Coroba, que representa nuestra identidad y nuestro orgullo, y es además una forma de mantener viva nuestras raíces y recordar de dónde venimos, ya que su nombre viene directo de nuestros antepasados los indígenas "Coroiba".
El sol estaba muy fuerte, ya que fui en horas de la tarde pero aún así aproveché la oportunidad para sacar unas hermosas fotografías de este monumento a orillas del majestuoso Orinoco, habían varios pajaritos posados sobre la Coroba y en la vegetación en la base.
Una de las cosas que pude observar es que este monumento está bastante abandonado y bastante deteriorado ya que en época de crecida del río se ve muy golpeado por las aguas aún así sigue siendo muy vistoso, y el hermoso cielo soleado ☀️ del día lo hizo ver más hermoso todavía .

I want to share with you my visit today to the Coroba monument, located on one of the area’s main avenues, practically a stone’s throw from the Orinoco River, which makes it a must-see landmark—whether you’re coming in via Troncal 19 or arriving from Guarico State, you’ll stumble upon the monument almost without meaning to.
Getting there is a breeze—you can walk along the riverbank while enjoying the atmosphere, or go by car or motorcycle.
The monument has the majestic Orinoco River as its backdrop, which gives it a stunning beauty that stands out at first glance.
For locals, this isn’t simply a decoration in the middle of a public space; it holds great sentimental value and cultural significance, as it is the Coroba, which represents our identity and our pride. It’s also a way to keep our roots alive and remember where we come from, since its name comes directly from our indigenous ancestors, the “Coroiba.”
The sun was very strong since I went in the afternoon, but I still took the opportunity to take some beautiful photos of this monument on the banks of the majestic Orinoco River. There were several small birds perched on the Coroba and in the vegetation at its base.
One thing I noticed is that this monument is quite neglected and in a state of disrepair; during the river’s flood season, it takes a real beating from the waters. Even so, it remains quite striking, and the beautiful sunny sky ☀️ that day made it look even more stunning.
El monumento surge cómo una iniciativa de la comunidad junto a las autoridades de la zona, fué realizada por escultores y artesanos locales que se encargaron de moldear la obra, tomando la fruta de la coroba y llevándola a una escala monumental que hoy domina toda la plaza.
Al observar de cerca, podemos notar que la base de la estructura, está hecha de concreto y revestida con hermosas piedras, ésto con la idea que resista el clima de la población, la crecida del río en invierno, y la brisa que sopla desde el cauce del rio; ésta tiene forma cilíndrica que va reduciendo su tamaño a medida que sube, lo cual permite apreciar la escultura principal en 360 grados desde cualquier ángulo de las plaza.
En la parte superior está la escultura que recrea una pepa o fruto de Coroba, hecho de metal, y hermosamente pintada en tono amarillo intenso, naranja y marrón rojizo imitando perfectamente el color de ésta fruta cuando está madura; así que si vienes a nuestro municipio no dejes de visitar este monumento orgullo de Cedeño, que rinde homenaje a ese preciado árbol que ha dado de comer a muchas generaciones en la región, brindandonosla masa para arepas y el aceite, y también es usada en hermosas obras artesanales como collares, llaveros y pulseras.

The monument emerged as a community initiative in collaboration with local authorities; it was created by local sculptors and artisans who shaped the work, taking the coroba fruit as their inspiration and scaling it up to a monumental size that now dominates the entire plaza.
Upon closer inspection, we can see that the base of the structure is made of concrete and clad with beautiful stones, designed to withstand the town’s climate, the river’s winter floods, and the breeze blowing from the riverbed; it has a cylindrical shape that tapers as it rises, allowing the main sculpture to be viewed in 360 degrees from any angle in the plaza.
At the top is the sculpture depicting a coroba seed or fruit, made of metal and beautifully painted in shades of deep yellow, orange, and reddish-brown, perfectly mimicking the color of this fruit when ripe; so if you come to our town, be sure to visit this monument—the pride of Cedeño—which pays tribute to that precious tree that has fed many generations in the region, providing us with the dough for arepas and oil, and is also used in beautiful handicrafts such as necklaces, keychains, and bracelets.
