PhotoFeed Contest - Wildlife Photography Round 117 ~ Sumatran Elephant Portrait at CRU Cot Girek, Aceh

Hello Hivers....

This post is my entry for the Wildlife Photography Contest hosted by @Photofeed. If you would like to enter this contest, please read and follow the rules here

The photo I am sharing is of a male Sumatran elephant with amazing long tusks, located in a dense green forest area around the Central Response Unit (CRU) Cot Girek, Aceh. The elephant looks calm near a small puddle, surrounded by lush tropical bushes and trees. This portrait is real evidence of how the wild still provides a safe space for this rare species to survive.

CRU Cot Girek is one of the elephant protection units under the management of the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), in collaboration with various conservation partners. This unit was formed in response to the conflict between humans and elephants that often occurs in the border areas of forests and settlements. Here wild elephants are monitored, treated if injured, and their natural habitat is maintained so that it remains safe and sustainable.

The elephant in this photo is one of the adult individuals that often appears around the CRU area. The presence of long, perfectly curved tusks shows that this elephant is in good health and has not been a victim of illegal hunting. Moments like this are very rare and valuable, because not all photographers can capture the beauty and majesty of wildlife in their natural habitat so closely.

Through visual documentation like this, the public is invited to be more concerned about the preservation of the Sumatran elephant, which is now listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. The conservation efforts carried out by CRU Cot Girek are not only important for the protection of wildlife, but also a symbol of harmony between humans and nature. Hopefully, public awareness of the importance of protecting the forest and its inhabitants will continue to grow through images and stories like this.

Important Note: I wrote in Indonesian, then translated it using Google Translate.
