PhotoFeed Contest - Wildlife Photography Round 128 ~ Red-capped Poksay

Hello Hivers....

This post is my entry for the Cityscape Photography Contest hosted by @photofeed,. If you would like to enter this contest, please read the rules here

The Red-capped Poksay is an endemic bird found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including Sumatra, particularly Aceh. Its distinctive feature is the brick-red top of its head, which resembles a hat, hence its name. Its body is predominantly dark gray with a contrasting yellow-orange beak and sturdy yellow legs for perching on tree branches. This bird is known for its loud and melodious chirp, often heard in the morning or early afternoon.

The Red-capped Myna's primary habitat is mountain forests at certain altitudes. They live in pairs or small groups, actively foraging in the middle to lower layers of the forest canopy. Their primary diet consists of small insects, fruits, and seeds. These birds also play a vital role in the ecosystem as seed dispersers of forest plants. With their agile movements and distinctive calls, the Red-capped Myna is a major attraction for birdwatchers and nature photographers.

Unfortunately, the Red-capped Myna population is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and poaching, as their song is often sought for pets. Conservation efforts through natural forest preservation and law enforcement against the wildlife trade are crucial to maintaining the species' survival. The beauty and uniqueness of this bird should be enjoyed in its natural habitat, not in a cage. With awareness and collective effort, the Red-capped Myna can be preserved for future generations.

Important Note: I wrote in Indonesian, then translated it using Google Translate.
