PhotoFeed Contest - Wildlife Photography Round 125 ~ Green Snake on Sibayak Hiking Trail
Hello Hivers....
This post is my entry for the Wildlife Photography Contest hosted by @Photofeed. If you would like to enter the contest, please read the rules
When climbing Mount Sibayak, climbers are often faced with various natural beauties, but must also be aware of potential dangers, one of which is wild animals such as snakes. In the photo I shared, there is a bright green snake with contrasting scales hiding among the rocks. This snake is most likely a type of Trimeresurus albolabris or known as a red-tailed green snake or commonly called a bajing snake, a venomous species often found in tropical mountainous areas such as Mount Sibayak, North Sumatra.
Its bright green body color provides excellent camouflage in rocky environments and green vegetation. This snake is usually active at night, but during the day they can be found resting in shady or warm places such as rock crevices. Its calm and silent presence makes it difficult to detect, which is an important reason why climbers must always be alert and pay attention to every step when passing through rocky or bushy paths.
Although classified as venomous, this snake is not aggressive if not disturbed. Attacks on humans generally occur because the snake is accidentally stepped on or provoked. Therefore, it is important for climbers to wear adequate shoes, not carelessly touch objects on the climbing path and always keep a safe distance if they encounter wild animals. This is important as part of the climbing ethics that respect nature and maintain personal safety.
The experience of seeing a snake like the one in this photo can be a reminder that nature is home to many living creatures that we need to respect. Mount Sibayak, with all its beauty, has a unique and challenging ecosystem. Being a wise climber means not only enjoying the scenery, but also maintaining vigilance and respect for the creatures that inhabit the area.
