Good morning, friends! ❄️

Following on from my last post in this community (link), in which I shared with you the route I took from Valezim, climbing little by little the 2351 meters that make it the highest point in mainland Portugal, today I want to share the photos I ended up taking as soon as I got there. On that winter morning, December 2nd, the thermometers read -2.5 Cº, and the sky was spectacular, with few clouds on the horizon and an almost immaculately clear sky with no very dark clouds. At first I thought the temperature might drop a little, but unfortunately we didn't see any snow, only the top of the mountain was covered in frost that had fallen last night. The great advantage of arriving at the Tower early is that you can discover and photograph everything, without worrying about photos full of people and waiting for people to get out of the frame so you can just take in the natural elements.

The landscape, finely sculpted by the Maestro of cold, has become majestic enough to be recorded in photographs. We all remember from our environmental science lessons that each snowflake or ice crystal is unique in its geometry and size... It's amazing to see that Nature creates and recreates itself every day and every hour in front of our eyes. What greater miracle could there be? For those who aren't believers, I think that just watching this phenomenon makes you marvel at the perfection, and in some cases the perfection in dealing with and resolving the imperfections that exist and that occur. Only an unenlightened mind wouldn't be amazed at observing all the intricate and interconnected phenomena, so that it wouldn't be almost hypnotized by what we hear, see, smell or feel... Just the fact that the senses as we know them are part of us and make us an integral part of life is a wonderful thing.

I was amazed at what the cold and ice could do to a Jeep that had surely spent more than a couple of hours in the same place... There was still time to play a bit on the ice, and leave a simple, tangible mark of the most fantastic community I know!

Thank you for the time! I hope you enjoyed this post.

Bem Hajam 🍀

I always think of Portugal as hot and sunny, it's crazy to find out that it can drop below freezing!

It's true! Although not in a large part of our country, these episodes of snow and ice do happen, but only in the coldest months of the year, and at high altitudes, such as in Trás-os-Montes (the northern interior of Portugal) and the Serra da Estrela. But I confess that for me, seeing snow or ice is very rare indeed, as you can probably imagine
