Parque Verde do Mondego, Coimbra - Portugal [Eng-Pt]
Good afternoon and welcome to another WorldMapPin Community post!
Today I want to share with you a walk I took through the fantastic “Parque Verde do Mondego” in Coimbra.
I had already promised our friend @cryptoreforma to share some of the photos I took on a walk in February this year.
I decided to take the Intercidades train to Coimbra! I hadn't been there since I was a kid and had been there with my parents. Of course, the city has changed a lot, and the memories I have of my 6 or 7 years are little or nothing...
Forty years on, it was time to make the most of a vacation day I had, and I decided to do it in such a way as not to cause the slightest ecological footprint! And how did I manage it? Well, here's a list of the things I did to achieve it:
I made a snack (home-made sandwiches, and a bottle of water, as well as some energy/protein bars). I traveled by public transport, and in this case, as I have a suburban train station very close to my house, I immediately took a train that took me to the Oriente multinodal station, where I caught the Intercidades train to Coimbra.
I arrived at the Coimbra B train station, which is currently undergoing major refurbishment work to better integrate the city's transport and modernize the facilities of the train station itself.
I walked from the station to the central part of the city. I decided not to take the bus, or even Uber. I didn't have much time, as the return train wasn't due until 4pm. I visited the old part of the city, as well as the University, and many other fantastic places that I'll share with you one day.
Coimbra is one of Portugal's oldest cities. It is closely linked to culture and education. This is partly due to the presence of the University of Coimbra, which has a long and very honorable existence, and which I've talked about briefly in a StreetArt community post (link).
After strolling through the old town, I decided to walk down from the city to the park on the banks of the River Mondego.
When I arrived at the park, I found a very pleasant day for February! I strolled through part of the garden and breathed in the fresh air, considering its central location.

Hoje quero aqui partilhar com vocês um passeio que eu fiz pelo fantástico "Parque Verde do Mondego", em Coimbra.
Já tinha prometido ao nosso amigo @cryptoreforma partilhar algumas das fotografias que fiz aquando de um passeio que fiz em Fevereiro deste ano.
Decidi apanhar o comboio Intercidades e deslocar-me até Coimbra! Já lá não ia desde que era pequeno, e que tinha lá estado com os meus pais. Claro que a cidade já mudou muito, e as memórias que eu tenho dos meus 6 ou 7 anos, a pouco ou quase nada se resumem...
Quarenta anos volvidos, estava na altura de aproveitar um dia de férias que tinha, e decidi fazer de modo a não causar a mínima pegada ecológica! E como é que o consegui? Pois bem, vou deixar-vos aqui uma lista das coisas que fiz para o alcançar:
Fiz um lanche (sandwiches feitas em casa, e uma garrafa de água, bem como algumas barras energéticas/proteína). Desloquei-me de transportes públicos, e neste caso, como eu tenho estação de comboio suburbano bem perto da minha casa, apanhei logo um comboio que me levou à estação multinodal do Oriente, onde apanhei o comboio Intercidades para Coimbra.
Cheguei à estação de comboios de Coimbra B, que está actualmente a sofrer grandes obras de remodelação, para uma melhor integração dos transportes da cidade, e para uma modernização das instalações da própria estação ferroviária.
Da estação até à parte central da cidade, fui a pé. Decidi não ir de autocarro, ou mesmo de Uber. Não tinha grandes limitações de tempo, pois o comboio de regresso seria apenas pelas 16h. Visitei a parte antiga da Cidade, bem como a Universidade, e muitos muitos locais fantásticos que um dia vou aqui partilhar convosco.
Coimbra é uma das cidades mais antigas de Portugal. Estando intimamente ligada à cultura e ao ensino. Devendo-se em parte à presença da Universidade de Coimbra, que tem uma longa e muito honorável existência, da qual eu falei já brevemente numa publicação da comunidade StreetArt (ligação).
Depois do passeio pela parte antiga, decidi descer da cidade até ao parque que acolhe as margens do Rio Mondego.
Ao chegar ao parque, deparei-me com um dia muito agradável para o mês de Fevereiro! Percorri parte do Jardim, e respirei o seu ar bastante puro, isto considerando que a sua localização é bem central.
The Pedro e Inês Pedestrian Bridge, with its very modern stained glass windows, which winds its way across the watercourse, is a very photogenic monument. It was just a pity that it was a little too bright to capture the fantastic shades that the stained glass windows projected onto the bridge's wooden sleepers!
A Ponte Pedonal Pedro e Inês, com os seus vitrais bem modernos, e que serpenteia ao atravessar o curso de água é um monumento bastante fotogênico. Só foi pena estar um pouco de luz a mais para conseguir captar as tonalidades fantásticas que os vitrais projectavam nas travessas de madeira da ponte!
The many benches were just the invitation I needed. I ended up sitting down and having the snack I had prepared. And how good it tasted... At the end of a long walk through the streets and alleys of the old town and over the hills, resting on a bench in the garden and simply admiring the flights of birds crossing the green banks of the Mondego was very pleasant.
In the end, I still had time to read three chapters of a book I was reading at the time, which I think I've already told you about - The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle do Haruki Murakami.
When it was just over an hour before the train that would take me home arrived, I walked along the west bank of the river and crossed the Rainha Santa Isabel Bridge.
And I took part in the Ribeiro de Aemininum Walk, which presented me with some very interesting vel-shaped awnings. They reminded me of some I'd seen for the first time on the Passeio Marítimo de Oeiras, on the premises of the Hotel do Inatel, near Praia de Santo Amaro.
It was a very pleasant afternoon. I ended up turning a vacation day into something that gave me a lot to know. Revisiting the city of Coimbra left me with several good feelings and certainties. One of them is certainly the desire to return here one day... And not in forty years!
Os bancos que são mais do que muitos, foram o convite necessário que eu precisava. Acabei por me sentar e tomar o lanche que eu tinha preparado. E que bem que me soube... Ao fim de uma grande caminhada pelas ruas e ruelas da cidade antiga, e pelas colinas, repousar num banco de jardim, e simplesmente admirar os voos das aves que cruzavam as margens verdes do Mondego foi muito agradável.
No fim ainda me sobrou tempo para ler três capítulos de um livro que estava a ler na altura, e que eu acho que já aqui vos tinha falado nele - Cronica do Pássaro de Corda - Haruki Murakami.
Quando faltava pouco mais de uma hora para a chegada do comboio que me levaria de regresso a casa, fui andando pela margem oeste do rio, e atravessei a Ponte Rainha Santa Isabel.
E fiz parte do Passeio Ribeiro de Aemininum, que me presentou com uns toldos de forma de vel bem interessantes. Fizeram lembrar-me uns que eu tinha visto pela primeira vez no Passeio Marítimo de Oeiras, nas instalações do Hotel do Inatel, perto da Praia de Santo Amaro.
Este foi uma tarde bastante agradável. Acabei por transformar um dia de férias, em algo que me deu muito a conhecer. Revisitar a cidade de Coimbra deixou-me várias boas sensações e certezas. Uma delas é certamente a vontade de um dia cá voltar... E não daqui a quarenta anos!
