CCC's Street Art Contest # 331 "The Cat and the Woman" - Vane MG & Tash creates - Alcantara, Portugal

Today, I want to share two very distinct pieces. They’re part of a large mural—I’ve already shared some of the pieces that make it up here—located in a neighborhood very close to where I work.

The pieces showcase two very distinct artistic approaches. The first is a stylized cat, with what appears to be a cape and a mystical aura that elevates it above any mortal. Its mysterious and somewhat vacant gaze leaves us somehow mesmerized by its symmetry and use of strong, contrasting colors.

The artist, Tash Creates, is a self-taught artist who seeks to connect different communities around the world—and locally—through art. She always strives to convey a way of looking at beings and wonders that transcend our existence, thereby sparking the curiosity of those who view her art as they seek answers to their questions.

The second work is more dynamic and heterogeneous. It is characterized by the layering of pieces from different parts of the world, which have little or almost nothing in common—other than the shades and colors used—and an idyllic, somewhat ethereal atmosphere that unites them. From the world of Hello Kitty, through stuffed animals, and even a female human figure, everything takes on a dimension greater than the sum of all its individual elements. Just like a person’s arm covered in tattoos by various artists.

This interesting approach presented here was created by Vane MG, a multidisciplinary artist and designer originally from Colombia but currently based in London.

Her work reflects a strong influence from the toys, objects, and imagination of her childhood, as well as the vivid neon-like colors and heart-shaped stickers that are her signature—all coming together to form a perfect bouquet that keeps us captivated as we take it all in.

Although these two pieces are distinct, they coexist beautifully side by side on this fantastic mural located in Alcântara.
