CCC's Street Art Contest # 317 "Dark-haired furry anarchist sailor" - Lily Cursed - Alcântara, Portugal

Welcome to another post in the Street Art community, which I love so much!

How’s your week going? I hope it’s going well. We’re almost at the end of another week, and quickly approaching October… Since time flies, I couldn’t pass up the chance to share and participate in yet another contest sponsored by digi-me!

This week, I’ll continue to show a little more of the huge mural located in Alcântara—and if you’re ever in that area and have a special interest in street art, it’s definitely worth stopping by.

On this section of the wall, a panda with several smiling faces appears to brighten up the mural. It’s a clean piece with bold lines that immediately catch the eye of passersby.

Next is the lettering by the artist HODIE, which means “Today” in Latin! Interestingly, sometimes we don’t even notice time passing. Just like what happened to me this week. And what about you—are we able to focus solely on today and the present moment? It’s a question we should ask ourselves whenever possible.

And finally—and in my opinion, the most original and captivating piece of the this section, I’m sharing here today—is a radical black sailor cat wearing a pink studded collar, who, in his little boat, is heading toward what I see as a somewhat idyllic future.

An anarchist future… Personally, I don’t believe in anarchy as a viable form of social organization, since I don’t think a society without political and structural guidance could flourish and ensure sustenance for all.

The phrase on the bow of the boat reads, “The ship of anarchy still burns on.”

You can also read the inscription “PUM” on the boat, and I looked up its meaning in light of the anarchist theme. It appears that this acronym refers to mutualism, a movement founded by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, whose main characteristic is the theoretical concept that mutual associations (agricultural, industrial, and credit) form the basis for a decentralized society.

The artist, known as Lily Cursed, often uses cats as a recurring theme in her work. In this particular piece, what immediately caught my attention wasn’t the political theme, but the subject itself! I love black cats!

What about you—do you also have a particular passion for black cats? Right now I don’t have any pets, but if I ever get one, I’d prefer a cat, since they’re very independent animals with a personality that I really like. The fact that they don’t require you to take them for walks several times a day so they can relieve themselves is, for me, a more than legitimate reason to choose them as my pet of choice. I’ve always had a passion for black cats and the number 13!
