CCC's Street Art Contest #254 Palácio da Baldaya - RAF [Eng-Pt]

This week, I wanted to share a beautiful, very artistic work by an artist who I've already shared at least two of his works here (Link 1, Link 2).
His name is Rui Ferreira, but he is known artistically as RAF. RAF was born in Lisbon and studied at the António Arroio art school.
Although he had always shown an interest in drawing and painting, it was at the age of 16 that he showed the first signs of his true love, when he used the walls of his bedroom to express himself.
When he was 18, he was approached to create an advertising mural for one of the theme park rides in the center of Lisbon, Feira Popular. This work served to catapult him into other projects of a similar nature in one of the amusement parks, but this time in the north of Portugal.
This last project allowed him to perfect his airbrushing technique over the three years it took place. He became known for his creations, which were very popular on motorcycles, using their helmets and tanks to express himself.
From there to the next step was a snap, and he took part in several works that were used for Expo 98!
The work I'm sharing here today is located in the parish of Benfica, in the city of Lisbon in Portugal. It's at the entrance to what is now known as the Baldaya Palace, located at Estrada de Benfica 701A.
Seeing this beautiful piece reminded me a little of the art noveaux movement!
Let me tell you a little about this building. The first written references to it date back to 1783, which confirms the existence of the Quinta do Desembargador Manoel Ignacio de Moura, which would become the future Quinta da Baldaya. In 1840, the palace was given as a wedding present to Dona Maria Joanna Baldaya, who would occupy it between 1840 and 1859, the date of her death. As there were no direct legal heirs, the palace passed between several owners for various purposes, including that of a hotel at the end of the 19th century. Its privileged location led the Portuguese State, one of its owners, to set up the National Veterinary Research Laboratory there in 1913. In 2017, after the Parish Council acquired the premises, the Palace was converted into a cultural center, an innovation center with multiple spaces for collaborative work, a library and fantastic outdoor gardens!

Esta semana, queria partilhar um bonito trabalho, muito artístico que foi elaborado por um artista que eu já aqui tinha partilhado pelo menos duas obras suas (Link 1, Link 2).
Seu nome é Rui Ferreira, mas é conhecido artisticamente por RAF. RAF nasceu em Lisboa, estudando na escola artística António Arroio.
Apesar de ter sempre demonstrado interesse pelo desenho e pela pintura, foi aos 16 anos que deus os primeiros sinais do seu verdadeiro amor, quando usou as paredes do próprio quarto para se expressar.
Quando tinha 18 anos foi abordado para criar um mural publicitário para um dos divertimentos do parque temático do centro de Lisboa, a Feira Popular. Esse trabalho, serviu para o catapultar para realizar outros, com o mesmo cariz num dos parques de diversões, mas desta vez no norte de Portugal.
Este ultimo projecto permitiu-lhe durante os três anos em que decorreu, aperfeiçoar a sua técnica de aerografia. Tornou-se conhecido pelas suas criações que eram muito populares nos motares, usando os capacetes e depósitos das mesmas para se expressar.
Desde aí até ao próximo passo foi um ápice, tendo participado em vários trabalhos que foram usados para a Expo 98!
O trabalho que eu hoje aqui partilho, encontra-se na Freguesia de Benfica, na cidade de Lisboa em Portugal. Encontra-se na entrada do que agora é denominado de Palácio Baldaya, que se localiza na Estrada de Benfica 701A.
Ao ver esta bonita peça, fez-me lembrar um pouco do movimento de art noveaux!
Vou-vos falar um pouco acerca desta edificação. As primeiras referências escritas que existem dela, datam de 1783 onde confirma a existência da Quinta do Desembargador Manoel Ignacio de Moura, quer seria a futura Quinta da Baldaya. Em 1840, o palácio foi oferecido, como presente de casamento a Dona Maria Joanna Baldaya, que o viria a ocupar entre 1840 e 1859, data do seu falecimento. Não havendo herdeiros legais diretos, o Palácio passou entre vários donos, e com diversas finalidades, entre elas a de ser um hotel, nos finais do século XIX. A sua localização privilegiada, levou a que o Estado Português, um dos seus proprietários, tenha instalado em 1913 nele o Laboratório Nacional de Investigação Veterinária. Em 2017, e após aquisição por parte da Junta de Freguesia das instalações, o Palácio foi então convertido em polo cultural, centro de inovação com espaços múltiplos de trabalho colaborativo, com biblioteca e os seus fantásticos jardins exteriores!

Tenho ideia de ter visto essa assinatura RAF numa parede em Coimbra. Não me lembro agora onde, mas tentarei descobrir. Tem um traço excelente.
