One year with my female Harris's hawk (2025.04.30)
I bought my Harris's hawk exactly one year ago, in the afternoon of 2024.04.30 in Huelva, Spain.
I travelled with her on a ferry to Tenerife, Canary Islands on 2024.05.03, and I live on this island with her since then.
Since then I travelled to Hungary only once so far, mostly to create and obtain my passport, and I trusted one of my friends to took care of my bird for approximately one month.
I still live in a tent in the cave/tent living community.
My bird have an aviary with a perch.
My tent and my brother's tent is also in front of the aviary.
My friends in this community regularly do maintenances both on the equipment of the bird and on the aviary too.
A lock clasp has been installed on the aviary on 2025.04.26.
The perch has been fixed on the same day.
And a few days before that day, one of my friends made new anklets and new jesses too for my Harris's hawk.
I live in the cave/tent living community since the spring of 2023.
We have ideas, including a caravan, but this is a question of the future at the moment.
I will continue to live in this place at least in the next few months. Maybe even for the next half year.
One of my friends is considering taking an autocaravan from Hungary to the island around October and November, and probably I will buy it from him, but that is still a little bit more than half year.
Many things can happen until then.
The main thing is that we are all good, and I sleep with my bird almost every day.
My Harris's hawk is hatched on 2023.06.28, so she will be two years old two months later.
Living with a falcon while camping sounds very wild but it actually makes sense given how you've set up the aviary and how people pitch in when something needs fixing. Keeping an eye on all the details such as the ankle straps and the perch is a lot of work but it's what you have to do if you want the bird to be happy, having friends nearby who know how to help or who can look after the falcon when you can't be there makes everything easier for sure, just being able to sleep close by and keep an eye on the hawk is already a win ✌️
I live in this place since the spring of 2023, because I have not found a better possible option so far.
I spend most of the day with my Harris's hawk.
It is essential in this place to have others around, who can look after my bird, when I have something necessary to do somewhere else (for example to apply for and to obtain a passport, which I did in the recent past).
I am glad that there are helpful people in this place.
And I am continuously trying to find possible solutions for better living conditions.
