I came back to Hungary because of an injury (2023.06.07)
Two days ago (on 2023.06.05) I slipped, and I fell backwards on my left elbow in the rocky semi-desert on Tenerife. It is not broken, but it is damaged. I can hardly move it, and cannot touch my shoulder with it. I feel a relatively low amount of pain in it. When I try to move it up, the pain increases. Someone made radiographs (X-rays). My left elbow and my left shoulder are both injured. The doctor put a plaster of Parish on my entire left arm. I have to wear this at least until the next Wednesday. The checkup will be on that day. I write this blog post one handed.
I had to travel back to Hungary, because I currently do not have an European Health Insurance card. The examination and the treatment on Tenerife would have been very expensive (thousands of Euros) without that. It is free in Hungary, because I have a Hungarian health insurance.
I will apply for that card before I go abroad again.
The hospital (traumatology) on Budapest, where they examined and treated my left arm.
This flight to Budapest was not a direct flight. There was one transfer. The airplane went to Warsaw, Poland first. I spent yesterday (2023.06.06) night on the Warsaw Chopin airport. The airplane to Budapest departured today morning at 08:25.
There would have been a direct flight three days later, but I would not have like to wait with this. I picked the earliest flight to have the examination and the treatment as soon as possible.
Hopefully both my left elbow and my left shoulder too will be healed in one or two weeks.
My current plan is to return to Tenerife (or to somewhere in Spain) in the near future, as soon as possible.
Soon I will write an update.
Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.
I hope you get better soon and can return to Spain.
Thank you.
Ouch! Get well soon. That health insurance card is certainly a must.
Thank you.
Indeed. I did not know it so far.
Kívánok gyors gyógyulást
Köszönöm.

I flied only three times so far. Once directly from Budapest to Tenerife, then from Tenerife to Warsaw, and from Warsaw to Budapest. I received my European Health Insurance card four days ago (on 2023.06.08). It is valid until 2026. Today my left arm is much better. The checkup on the traumatology will be on Wednesday (on 2023.06.14). The doctors probably will remove the plaster of Parish. If everything will be good, then I will travel again around the end of June.
You're lucky and unlucky. Lucky that trips back and forth are short and sweet between such awesome places. Unlucky that you fell, hurt your arm, and had no insurance.
I didn't know you could get insurance in other places outside of where you lived, can you get insurance as a tourist too?
This is what the European Health Insurance card is good for. It is good in other countries. I had insurance in the past too, but that was valid only in my country (in Hungary). I have not had the European Health Insurance card, when I was on Tenerife. Now I have. It is good almost in the entire European continent. And of course I still have the local (Hungarian) health insurance too.
Yes. The European Health Insurance card is good for the tourists too. It is good for anyone, who is temporarily staying abroad in most of the European countries.
That is pretty amazing to find out. Makes me want to plan a vacation Thanks for the information.
