My first experience as a makeup artist for a school event

Who would have thought that, in the end, I would walk down the path to be a simple and still unknown make-up artist here? It's been how many years since I neglected this kind of hobby? I have many thoughts and wishes to do in life, but I don't really have the heart to continue them because I'm not happy with what I'm doing. So I can't really imagine that I will come to the point where, just by holding a makeup brush, I will come back again and show my skill in beautifying someone's face.

HOW IT STARTED:

It started to grow within my feelings to continue my passion for makeup when my younger cousin talked to me about her problem at their school. She said that there's a pageant event in their school, and her classmate didn't have a makeup artist yet to fix her looks for the pageant she participated in. At that time, she told me that each section should find their own makeup artist for their candidate. In their class, none of them know how to do make up, so they don't have a choice but hire me to do make-up for their classmate.

I didn't talk to their classmate about the 'business' because my cousin said to me that their classmate is just poor and doesn't have money to hire a makeup artist. And so, they don't have a choice and her Mom is the one who insisted on helping her daughter (my cousin) with her problem with her classmate. She told me to be her daughter's classmate's makeup artist for that event because my cousin is very stressed and depressed already about that problem in their class (because she is their homeroom president). The business about how they will pay me and so on is just between us, and she promised me that she would pay me after the event. So I said "okay" after the deal and did the job.

The pageant I'm referring to that I attended was their celebration of United Nations Day. This happened on October 24, 2023, at the school where I used to study.

The feeling of being a makeup artist at my previous school for the first time is making me feel nervous because:

First, this is my first time doing this kind of job again. Yes again, because I also did this job three years ago, but I only accept people who can go to our house. So at that time, it was my first time doing makeup in school. I am nervous because I know that a lot of students will judge or watch what I am doing.

Second, I am nervous because I know that my cousin's classmates and adviser depend on me to win their classmate in the pageant. I arrived at their school at 11 a.m., and I will start to do her makeup during their launch break. Imagine? The time that I only have is 1 hour to finish her makeup.

So as my first-time experienced of being a makeup artist in a beauty pageant in the school, it is really hard because you have to hurry. You need to finish her makeup properly. In that one hour, I'm nervous that I might not be able to finish because a lot of things need to be put on the face so that you can achieve the order that suits her looks and the country that she will represent.

I saw my old teachers at that time, and they were shocked to know that I was one of the hired makeup artists for one of their students. They didn't know that I knew how to do makeup. I even talked and had a little chika with my old teachers, and one of them was 8 months pregnant at the time (she has now given birth to her second daughter). Some of my old teachers are still smacking my butt and even jokingly pitching my waist and shoulder when they see me at that time. Want to know why? I was one of their most stubborn students in our batch, and I have a very bad reputation in our school. Hahaha

These things that happened during that time helped me feel less nervous.

And a reason why I successfully managed to finish doing her makeup and her hair too.

What I regret the most is not having pictures while I was doing her makeup at that time because I forgot to tell my cousin to take some pictures or have a timelapse video because I was in a hurry.

Do you know what was more difficult during those times? This was when the program was about to start. There was a student who didn't have a makeup artist because the one who was supposed to do her makeup was late. That's why I was asked if I could do her makeup. I can't say no because her mom was on her right side, and I also can't say no because I don't want to become another reason why she didn't continue to ramp on the stage.

Fortunately, she is a very beautiful child. She was white, and her face was smooth, so I was able to adjust to her very easily. I was able to finish her make-up right on time, and I was very exhausted after because I had to catch the time that was given to us.

A lot of students complimented my model's makeup, especially their adviser. Hearing those compliments from them makes me feel shy at that time, but at the same time, I feel so alive because there are some people who appreciate my talent.

I also enjoyed watching the event, and I even felt proud to watch my models ramp on the stage wearing the makeup look that I did on their beautiful faces.

What makes me feel more proud is that my cousin's classmate won two awards at that time Miss United Nations (Junior High School 2023) and Best in Production Number) . I was very proud and happy at that time because she won even though all I did was put some make up and fix her face.

CONCLUSION:

Now that I've experienced being a makeup artist, I realized that this kind of job is tiring pala, especially if the event you will attend is a pageant. Besides having time to follow, you also have to retouch their makeup a few times and help them fix what they will wear. It's also very difficult when you're new to this job because your salary is low. Customers also complain because they are stingy about paying because they thought that this kind of job was easy to do.

And now that I experienced being a makeup artist two months ago, I never stop myself from practicing doing makeup and especially hair styling.

I have another school event to attend and am waiting for the announcement of the exact date of the event (Mr. and Ms. Intramurals). My cousin is my customer this time because she is one of their candidates. I also have two customers this coming December 14 (for a ball event) and 18 (for attending a wedding).

Sorry if I am late to publish this blog, though it's already happened two months ago. I just remembered this event that I attended and it also made me busy when I wasn't here.
