Photographic Potpourri from Bangkok 2025 for #Monomad Challenge

Arrived and settled down in Songkhla 🇹🇭, time to share images from my Bangkok stay in February-March 2025.

DSC_0772.JPG

A fan dormitory of Wild Ones Hostel, $5 a day. Spartan but good except for the fact there was no convenient space to concentrate on online things; a perfect place for meeting herons on the way from the dormitory to a bathroom:

DSC_0571.JPG

Located not that centrally, and that's another why the hostel's prices are low:

DSC_9814.JPG

But actually Phasi Charoen district is an amazing area to be: 1) 15 minutes by metro for $0.6 or 2) 30 minutes by bus for 0.25$ to reach the city's historical part (Wat Pho area). + Fantastic Thai food of the best quality for $1.5 and lower in sois.

IconSiam isn't far away too:

DSC_0706.JPG

Not only a place with stunning views and vibes, but also a home for lovely $5 Swedish T-shirts, lol. (H&M).

DSC_0844.JPG

Bangkok downtown, no matter how many times you visited it, it's always a joy to come back.

Another location I could be spotted in March 2025:

DSC_0673.JPG

A banner "Cannabis, Coffee, Alcohol" on a residential building near Khao San Road.

DSC_0659.JPG

The street and its surroundings have been a popular backpacker area since the 1990s.

DSC_0645.JPG

Legalized weed has breathed a new life into this street.

DSC_0623.JPG

Though, I didn't consume marijuana. I didn't want to. Although they even sold it at the hostel's bar (from $7 a gram).

DSC_0666.JPG

In the beginning of the 2010s, I drank on Khao San Road and even got dead drunk a couple of times.

But in 2025, no booze, no weed, only photography (and a lot of coffee).

DSC_0636.JPG

Alleys in Chinatown are another cool destination for street photography, especially at night (more images from this area in the next post):

DSC_0757.JPG

Some streets get busy with nightlife/street food activities, and others turn dead after day stores get closed. I prefer the latter.

DSC_0688.JPG

A cool character on a motorbike walking a dog in an empty night street.

DSC_0693.JPG

Walls are where you should always look at in Bangkok:

DSC_0548.JPG

Always something interesting there like these photographs of deceased Rama IX in uniform and being haircut. He was very popular.

Another peice from a wall:

DSC_9831.JPG

These were great posters but nature's powers made them even cooler.

DSC_0754.JPG

Ad posters from the past in Chinese and Malaysian.

Asia... Magical Asia.

More Southeast Asian stories to come, stay tuned! Check out my previous posts on my personal Worldmappin map.

I took these images with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G on a full-frame DSLR Nikon D750 in February-March 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand.

😊 Did you check less centrally located areas of Bangkok? On Nut BTS is a great location - not far from everything like Sukhumvit and Chinatown (including many public buses). Many places to eat there for 50 baht + Tesco Lotus.

My wife did this - now I'll ask her to study it. Thanks for the tip 🙏

Wow man, the photos really show the raw energy of Bangkok. That hostel is pretty cool too even if it’s not the best for online work.

Yup, the hostel even had monitor lizards, so it was cool indeed. 🙂 Thank you!

typical asian places

True and at the same time Thailand is a very special Asian place. People are focused on harmony here.

we don't have the age anymore to get drunk

😀👍 I don't mind getting drunk too but I need a good company for that. When I was younger, drinking with random people was fun.

I wouldn't mind visit Thailand for holidays when kid grows up, a colleague went there before covid, great places and beaches, is it a safe place?

Because I been to Mexico and there were guards on village entrance and they warned us not to go around alone, I was wondering if Thailand is the same

No, it's not like this. I believe Thailand is safer than many European countries if not the most of them.

Good to know, waiting for the kid to grow up then 😅 have you been to other asian countries beside Vietnam and Thailand?

have you been to other asian countries beside Vietnam and Thailand?

It's already not quite correct to say "I've been to Thailand" since I've, like, lived 3+ years altogether in this country. Maybe, 4. Vietnam? 2 years or so... I stopped counting long time ago.

Also, Laos (6-7 months), Cambodia (5 months probably), Malaysia (3 months), Indonesia (1 month), India (6 months), Nepal (1 month), China (1 month). And Turkey, including Turkish Kurdistan.
