Laser pointers are the best! My black cat seems to Know when someone has scooped one into hand; he is immediately present and awaiting his time to chase. Sadly, I've had to limit the use of laser pointers in the house because my old, geriatric, arthritic dog also loves to chase them, despite the fact it physically hurts her.
But I love to hear the cats charging in a herd down the hallway in heavy pursuit of a light they'll never catch.

Our laser is still new-ish, so Meow hasn't quite figured that out yet. However, she has realized the source of the laser is the red thing in my hand, and half of the time she will lunge at my hand instead of the light on the ground or wall. Dogs and cats seem to have little self control with certain things, a laser being one of them, so cheers for not destroying doggy knees. I like using the laser pointer to highlight "wall meat," Meow's #1 source of protein.
