Lightpainting toys

I think this might be my first post to the Lightpainters community. The community is full of some fantastically artistic photographers. And now there's me.

I enjoy lightpainting toys. Being a child at heart (and continually immature, as my children will attest) I have a lot of toys. This small collection of toys presented here comes from the American version of Kinder Surprise toys.

For those unfamiliar with Kinder Surprise toys, they are chocolate eggs with a fun toy inside. When I was in college in Canada they were $0.99 Canadian and made the best break from studying. I still have a lot of those toys.

This group of toys came from this years collection and were rather festive in nature. They are all actually intended to be tree ornaments - they all came with small strings and a place to tie the string onto the toy - but I prefer to keep them as simple toys.

For these pictures I used a small lightbox with a black background that I have and a cheap dollar store finger flashlight as a light source. I used the flashlight as a "paint brush," so to speak, to paint the light onto the toys.

These are not as energetic as most of the pictures in the community, but the premise is similar to use a distinct lightsource in a dark location with a long exposure. The result shows incredibly bright and colourful subjects with a dark background.

Kinder Eggs!

Both my kids adored them and the toys were pretty amazing :D

You collect these as well? God... I'd love to visit your place. It must be a treasure chest and a total blast!

The feet community now? Dare I ask? 👀

If I may share summink? GIMP? Free and opensource and it's so worth adjusting light / contrast etc (post production) if you're moving into photography. Which I'd now been really keen to see more of... after your quirky radio show :)

Whatever is going to happen next?

Happy NY, fellow traveler. 💥👣

Happy New Year indeed! You're farther into it than I am. Is it still awesome?

Yes, the Feet community. 😁 It is what it is. Mostly it has turned into a place for me to share pictures of my mismatched socks! Life is to short to match socks.

My best friend and I, back in college, would have contests to see who could get the best Kinder toy. We had a hierarchy: puzzles sucked, standalone figured sucked less, and anything with a fly wheel in it was top notch. It was always disappointing to get one of those puzzles. 12 pieces. Maybe 16. No challenge. Too soggy to be used as kindling. Meh. I have a box full of them that I used to pull out every Christmas to decorate with a battery powered train set on my desk. This worked until cats entered the house and found their way onto my desk.

Hope you're having a fantastic day!

One of my all time favourite people taught me this some years ago. Now passed on to my son. Yes! You are totally friggin' right 👏

You're so funny and so quirky. 😆

I'd love to read the story about the cats...
