Monuments of Ukraine

It was 1936, when many churches in Kyiv were destroyed by communists. This anonymous photograph shows the dismantling of Byzantine mosaics of the 12th century from St. Michael monastery church before tha entire building was demolished. Today, this composition is in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow stolen by soviets. This is only a fragment of beautiful decoration, most of wich was destroyed once all for all. Thousands of churches in Ukraine have been ruined by lenin, Stalin, Hitler during the second world war, Khrushchev, and now Putin. About only 25 % of monuments have survived to this day.
