The Other Side Of Shibuya At Night

After a quick drinking session with my coworkers last Wednesday, I found myself photo-walking around Miyashita Park in Shibuya. No, I wasn't drunk, I figured I could exercise for a bit before getting late-night dinner and heading home.

Miyashita Park

Wednesdays are usually the day I go to the office so sometimes, when I'm lazy to cook dinner when I'm so tired from working in the office, I can't really cook dinner at home so I order takeout from Panda Express in Shibuya. Who doesn't love their orange chicken?! Panda Express is located inside Miyashita Park.

Shibuya Yokocho, an alley on the ground level of Miyashita Park with lots of foods and drinks

So yes, here I was, in the "park". Miyashita Park is not really the park that you're expecting. It's a mall. I guess I'll talk more about this building in another post because today, I'll be sharing with you the photos I took while walking around the building.

If you think of Shibuya, you'll think of the Shibuya crossing or the famous Hachiko statue but this wasn't it. I was on the other side, opposite the JR train tracks.

Quiet on this side of Shibuya

It's 8:30 PM and this side wasn't hectic. It didn't surprise me a bit, the crowd was on the other side, and the cars..? Well, I guess they'll avoid Shibuya at all costs. Oh no wait, some of them were also on the other side.

Now on the footbridge

I was on the 2nd floor of Miyashita Park and this end was connected to the footbridge. You can even search for it on Google Maps with its name: 宮下第二歩道橋 (Miyashita Dai Ni Hodo Bridge). It's my first time knowing of this footbridge here because I don't usually reach this area.

Less crowd on this side

I was alone on the footbridge and was really enjoying the views of Shibuya from here. It's not the same views as you would get on the other side. On the other side, which you'll often see on the internet, social media, tv, etc, it's loaded with people and lively stores open til late to serve the sleepless Shibuya. Here on this side, it's quiet, solemn, kinda lifeless, quite the opposite.

Not even a lot of cars were passing here

After absorbing the silence, I was intrigued by a store on the ground floor so I went to check it. I'll share about that store next time. I continued walking, this time, still on the ground level, until I realized I should head back inside. The escalator wasn't actually inside, it was just outside, on the street, on the side, of course. 😁

Walking on the sidewalk of Miyashita Park

I wanted to play around with my phone camera on this fence I stumbled upon on the 3rd floor, just outside the food court area but my phone camera's acting up. It couldn't get the focus on the fence.

View from the 3rd floor of Miyashita Park

Before it becomes 9 PM, I should get the takeout or else I wouldn't get good ones so I gave up on the fence and went inside the food court. Luckily there was still a lot on the menu of Panda Express, including my favorite Orange Chicken. I ordered fast and went down the escalator to the 2nd floor, where the first footbridge is.

Shibuya Scramble Square Building looks massive from the first footbridge

This is the footbridge I always use when going home, except when I use the elevator. From here, there's a clearer view of the Shibuya Scramble Square Building so I figured I should take photos from here too. But alas, there was a guy with his tripod and powerful camera equipment in the center of the bridge so I couldn't take the best angles. 😕

Even when I've been here many times, I haven't really taken a lot of photos. Sometimes there's no access from Miyashita Park to this footbridge or it's already closed, past its schedule. Sometimes there will be a shooting of a film or drama on this footbridge. Sometimes I just don't feel like walking here. 😌 So today felt like this is the day.

Some ads on the next building

Going down and going home

I didn't stay for too long because I got tired already from wandering and taking photos. Holding the takeout while taking photos with my phone was quite a hassle so after a few shots, I decided to call it quits.

What do you think? Will you come to this side of Shibuya? Or do you prefer the lively side?

Shibuya seems so appealing !
Yes , it gets sometimes too tiring returning from work , and one do not like to cook or perform any hectic activities, rather just lay in the couch 😂😂. It seems a interesting wednesday at Shibuya

Everything I come home from the office, I'm so drained so I just wanna stay put and not do anything 😅
But since the office is just near Shibuya, a detour doesn't hurt. 😄

Haha! We took a train for Shibuya which the exit should be the Hachiko statue. I actually know how to get around Tokyo. Iba ang sinakay nila na train na pa SHibuya daw but the quiet version of Shibuya pala ang exit. Ang layo ng nilakad namin. So sa area na eto, naglakad kami kung saan kami nag dropoff. I regret for not insisting we took the wrong train. hahaha! Kasi pagod talaga kami.

Pero ayown lang, it would have been nice if konti nalang lakad if pagod na pagod na talaga, yung d na kaya.

Tapos pag dating na sa maingay na Shibuya, pumunta kami ng starbucks, nilibre ako. hahaha! Di ko nilaban kasi nga ayaw ko mapahiya sila na sila taga Japan. hehe. yon lang, di sila familiar sa tokyo that time. nung first few days ko dyan sa tokyo, inaral ko yong mapa ng train. haha! nakakalito talaga.

I often after a few drinks if not to many liked to go for a walk before calling it a night

An interesting night walk cool to see the city and lights

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk, Sorry last week was a bit rough for me and I not only did not get out for any walks, but also was not able to visit all the walks from last week, but feeling better this week and visiting posts again which is always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

When I had stents put in my legs a few years back I was put on blood thinners and they recommended no alcohol so now I only have a beer maybe once every month or two with a meal if we got out for Lunch

I did miss my evening beers initially i must admit LOL

That place is a work of art! 😍 I really love that their cities still have trees and plants all over the place. 💜 I wish manila will also look that way in the future 😁 !PIZZA

That would be awesome to see Manila with lots of trees and plants even when it's full of buildings. Though air pollution.. hmm hope that will be solved too

It's like a must for first time travelers to go to Shibuya to take a photo in the crossing and with Hachiko. Some people won't mind going to this side though. 😁

@wittyzell Japanese cities have a magical plus, I like their colors, their life and the energy they transmit, in this publication I really felt like I was walking through the streets of Shibuya, also the night is a great time to develop many activities and to enjoy the air, the freshness and the other face of this and any other city. Greetings and hugs!

It's quite different on daytime. It has its charms. The air~ ah yes, that's why I like walking after sunset or night because it's a different breeze.

Thank you TKG! I also like this side. It's uncomfortable to move with lots of people around. You can't really enjoy the view. 😄

The way how you described everything here was amazing. I love that very much. I enjoyed it while reading. With the combination of picture and description gave me a feeling like I am visiting there with you.

These are nice photos. Makes me imagine I'm walking along the streets of Shibuya. Hopefully, I'll be able to see this or any part of Japan with my own two eyes someday. :) Thanks for this, Witty!
