#SpringInJapan: After Sunset At The Araiyakushi Park

avatar
(Edited)

Sunday and home alone,
I figured I should roam
Despite the showering rain,
I thought at home I should not remain

IMG_6489_polarr.JPEG

It was raining last weekend but I had to go out. Despite having a bad hangover from Saturday night's drinking party, I forced myself to walk for 3 km to reach my destination. This month, I received my city's newsletter and on the last page, they listed the areas where you could see the cherry blossoms within the city, not in the whole of Tokyo, just within my ward/city. In that newsletter, this park is listed.

IMG_0368_polarr.JPEG

I wasn't expecting anything when I was walking. My destination wasn't this park actually, but the train tracks further. It was an accident that I found this park on the way there.

IMG_2334_polarr.JPEG

The park is not as big as Yoyogi Park but it's not so small either. What surprised me the most was the cherry blossoms in the park. From the photo in the newsletter, it looks so nice but seeing it in reality in front of my eyes is nicer.

IMG_0325_polarr.JPEG

IMG_2701_polarr.JPEG

I reached the park just after sunset so it was not so dark yet. There were few passersby but no one really sat on the benches or children playing in the park. Understandable, it's still raining and there was no shade except for the bus stop just outside the park.

IMG_6594_polarr.JPEG

IMG_8466_polarr.JPEG

Using my phone to capture these photos was no easy task. It was hard taking photos because I had to hold my umbrella and fix the phone's focus. 😄 It took me a while to get the shots I've been wanting to get. But I'm happy with the results.

IMG_4392_polarr.JPEG

What do you think of these wet cherry blossoms? Fresh from the rain~ If you'd ask me, it's not bad either. I usually go see the cherry blossoms on a fine day so seeing them in showers was refreshing.

IMG_7463_polarr.JPEG

Did I mention the name of the park is Araiyakushi Park? It's a 15-minute walk from Nakano station. Maybe after shopping for anime stuff in Nakano Broadway, you can head to this park if you want to be close to nature. Just know this is a residential park so you won't run into tourists.

IMG_8132_polarr.JPEG

There wasn't much to see in the park at this time because there were no kids playing. The other side of the park is a wide space with big trees on its far end corner. But the cherry blossoms were really a wonderful sight to see. While I was there, a couple came to take photos of themselves with the cherry blossoms. I was about to volunteer to take their photos but I didn't want to get involved with them and I'm actually shy. 😆

IMG_1268_polarr.JPEG

I think in the future, I'll come back to this park. It's not so far from where I live and it's good exercise. There's a pond across the street, still part of the park but I didn't explore it. Beside the park, there's also an old temple that's said to cure eye diseases. I saw some people walk out of the temple premises.

IMG_4761_polarr.JPEG

That's it for today's #SpringInJapan. Til next sakura viewing! 😊

Thanks for reading!
See you around! じゃあ、またね!

I was surprised to read that you are taking these pics with your cell phone. You are very good at it. I especially like the 7th photo. It is very interesting to see the slide peeking through the cherry blossoms!

Also, ibang klase pala ang hangover dyan, lumalabas ang pagiging makata.

The raindrops really made it more beautiful! I was wondering how you were able to capture amazing shots when it's raining. Witty the best!

Thank you C!
The rain wasn't so heavy at that time so I folded my umbrella so I could take photos. The somewhat big hurdle I had was my height. The cherry blossoms are so up high. LOL

It's still too cold for spring? Lately the weather is pretty messed up here too. These cherry blossoms are supposed to bloom this weekend, not last weekend.

I thought that cherries were blossoming in May in Japan!! Good that I didn't book my ticket as I was seriously planning to go this year. Do you suggest to come in March instead?

Great photos! I love cherry blossoms 😍

Late March to early May would be good. Usually late March, you can see cherry blossoms in Tokyo and Osaka. In April, you can see them from other regions. In early May, in Hokkaido.
I've always called it chasing sakura because it's everywhere, you just need to be there at the right time. 😅

So it's still okay to book your flight if it's early May. 😅

Mostly groups of friends or coworkers enjoy having a picnic and a drinking party under these trees.

I completely agree! It's so nice because you could see them everywhere here. You don't need to go to where the crowd usually go.

If there's something I envy you for, for living in Japan, is this. I mean we have these blossoms in my country too, but not as abundantly as over there. Some are blooming now and today we have a crazy wind, which rarely happens and it snowed in the morning. Do I bet by tomorrow all the petals will be on the ground and erikah missed the photo shoot, yet again. ☹️

You took some great shots!

Blooming now but it snowed? 🤔 WOW that's such a rare sight! I hope there are still petals tomorrow and the next day or until you go out and do the photoshoot 😅

In here, yesss they are everywhere! Some popular places even setup food stalls to celebrate the cherry blossoms blooming 😁

A residential park with free access? That's just incredible.

I love the cherry blossoms. They look even more beautiful with water droplets on them✨

Most parks near residential areas are free of charge. So lucky for people living near parks, they can enjoy the park, maybe do some exercise, play around, relax, and of course, see these beautiful cherry blossoms!

It's my first time learning about these words: 夜桜 and 桜吹雪 😊
Yay! Added them to my vocabulary!

I only have time at night so I usually do yozakura. Even on weekends, I just want to sleep during the daytime so また夜桜. 😆
今日も仕事の終わりに夜桜!

Enjoy the ohanami this weekend. I’m sure you are up to something under the trees this weekend. Really can’t get enough of them. The fact that they come at a significant time of year in Japan also makes them even more special.
