MIND TO REALITY- MATERIALIZING MY CREATIVITY.

Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure- Paulo Coelho

Hello, foodies and fellow creators!

Do you still have that burning desire to get creative and bring that idea to reality?

Well, I'm here to share mine, and maybe it could inspire and motivate you.

How It All Began.

I never knew I would venture into creating recipes because I hated frying meat and fish because of the splashes of hot oil. As time passed, the fear faded, and if I fried any of those, I would be far from the pan (I guess you know what I mean, Lol). I dislike hot oil on my skin, and no one likes it either, but I never stopped assisting my mum in the kitchen. Now, I prefer oven-roasting or broiling them.

Looking back to the days I started cooking, around the ages of 13-14, the first food I made was Okra soup, one of the most well-known soups in Nigeria. My mum challenged me, and the idea was for me to cook without any assistance. I summoned courage and cooked it, I had no idea of the score that awaited me. My dad arrived from work and my mum served the soup with wheat flour swallow. My dad ate the first one and smiled, he took it again and said, "Who cooked this soup.? I know it's not my wife." My dad knew the soup was cooked by a different hand.

Initially, I thought my parents wouldn't be satisfied with the taste, but guess what.? They praised me. My dad said, "If your first meal could taste so delicious, then you're likely to do well in this field". I noticed I derived joy in cooking and creating recipes, and even when I was in school (University), I never paid attention to jotting the recipes down, so I lost some. When I was not satisfied with the outcome of what I created, those who tasted it would be like, "Oh Winnie! This is so nice. How did you make this?." I would go on to explain.

This blog post has my baking journey. You can check it out.

Trusting The Process.

Each time I baked and decorated cakes, I found something new to improve on. With the knowledge of how to bake cakes from my mum and decorate cakes from my elder sister through instructions over the phone, I improved on my own with every experience. I had students who preferred to book my cakes, I had more referrals.

Cakes done by me in 2012, was still a student.

My idea and desire to create more was born. I went ahead for professional training in cake decorating, and it was a policy to begin with the beginner's course, which was the baking course where I learned a few baking recipes. After I graduated from the baking and decorating courses, I felt I could start creating content on platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube), and Winanda's World came to be. I put out a few pieces of content on those platforms.

Image is mine, 2017.

I kept creating and taking photographs and videos, and I was better with time from dark and low-quality photographs and videos, to brighter and high-quality ones, and still advancing. Along the line, I met Canva for creating designs and PowerDirector for video editing and fell in love with them. I had also tested out some other editing software which were cool too. The desire for more has brought me here.

I find it more comfortable editing on my phone or tablet, but this time around I'm learning it on my laptop and it's a bit complex for me but with time, I will get to edit videos easily with it.

Screenshot from my project in PowerDirector on my PC.

I flow whenever the inspiration to create finds its way into my mind, and I use what I can lay my hands on to get it done.

I had this vanilla and strawberry ice cream in the freezer, and I craved something cold, sweet, and soft and decided to have it topped with coconut flakes, it was satisfying and relaxing.

Here is one of the cakes I worked on, and I found it interesting to edit on Canva. It has a piece of information about trimming cakes. You can read it up.

Now The Reality.

It has begun, and there is so much more to do. I will only run with the flow, and I hope you learn so much from my content.

Photos in the image are mine designed by me on Canva.

Recently, I thought of filling up threads with a number of my recipes, not just images but full recipes. There will be long-form content, videos on 3speak and others as thread-storm with #recipesonleo (You can click on the hashtag, best view on INLEO). Hopefully, this will get more eyes on my content and the knowledge will be imparted.

Conclusion

It could take quite some time for an idea or project to materialize, it's okay, trust the process and keep going. One thing is certain, the moment you have an idea and you have the zeal to make it a reality, no matter how long it takes, someday, it will come to light.

Now, let's keep the creativity in us alive.

This is my entry to Week 3 CWH-DREEMPORTFOLIO Challenge which brings an end to this challenge.

Lovely content this is. I remember the first time I cooked anything, it was jollof rice and my dad being my biggest cheerleader was so proud of me. I don’t know if the food was all that but I cherish that moment so much.

Awwwwwn!
So sweet and inspiring story.
While reading, I took my mind back to the early days of my cooking...I think I didn't pass through many test, I just hopped in and it worked. We were trained to be friend with the kitchen otherwise, hunger.🤣
Everyone in my house knows how to cook with ease, except pounding of yam because it's stressful 😅

Oh! That's good. I feel it's important for men and women to know how to cook in order to save cost and also eat what the mouth desires and if it becomes a hobby, why not, the fun continues.

As for the pounded yam, it's not that stressful, you can also get yam pounder to make it easier. All you need to do is to put the boiled yam in it and switch it on, it pounds it properly until it's smooth.

Thanks for visiting my blog. 😊

Yam pounder sounds so good.
