Wednesday walk: my favorite route to work (En-Es)

Hello friends, another week that I participate in this #wednesdaywalk initiative, which I love because it makes us notice interesting and beautiful things in places we normally walk through and sometimes we don't pay so much attention to, besides allowing us to share with the world the place where we live as well as walks through places we visit.

Hola amigos, otra semana que participo en esta iniciativa de #wednesdaywalk, que me encanta porque nos hace notar cosas interesantes y bonitas en lugares por los que transitamos normalmente y a las que a veces no le prestamos tanta atención, además de permitirnos compartir con el mundo el lugar donde vivimos así como paseos por lugares que visitamos.

This time I will show you my favorite route to go to work, I must say that once I did a similar post where I showed you the places I saw on my way to work, but back then the route was different. Lately I have been taking a new path and these are the reasons:

• 1-) The street I used to take when leaving my house is now in very bad conditions, which gets worse when it rains and it is very difficult for me to pass.
• 2-) Although I was going through the main street of the city and the walk was more entertaining, this was taking me a bit far away and making me lose time.
• 3-) The new route makes me pass by the neighborhood where I grew up and makes me remember beautiful moments of my childhood as well as some of my dreams (I explain better later).

LET THE WALK BEGIN!

En esta ocasión les mostraré mi ruta preferida para ir al trabajo, debo decir que una vez hice un post similar en dónde les mostraba los lugares que veía de camino al trabajo, pero en ese entonces la ruta era diferente. Últimamente he estado tomando otro camino y estas son las razones:

• 1-) La calle por la que iba anteriormente al salir de mi casa ahora está en muy malas condiciones, lo que empeora cuando llueve y el paso se me dificulta mucho.
• 2-) Aunque iba por la calle principal de la ciudad y el camino se me hacía más entretenido, esto me alejaba un poco y me hacía perder tiempo.
• 3-) La ruta nueva me hace pasar por frente del barrio donde crecí y me hace recordar momentos bonitos de mi infancia así como algunos de mis sueños (explico mejor más adelante)

¡QUE COMIENCE EL PASEO!

This walk starts very early in the morning, around 7:30 a.m., because at that time I leave my house to arrive early to the university where I work. Leaving home I have to cross a few streets, most of them a little bit steep, which characterizes this area known as "El Velez".

Este paseo comienza muy temprano en la mañana, a eso de las 7:30 a.m., pues a esa hora salgo de mi casa para llegar temprano a la universidad donde trabajo. Al salir de casa tengo que atravesar unas pocas calles, la mayoría de ellas un poco empainadas, lo que caracteriza a esta zona conocida como "El Vélez".

Then I get to Yagruma Street, which is a very long street that starts a little steep, but then it's all downhill, you can see how the sun was about to rise.

Luego llego a la calle Yagruma, que es una calle muy larga que empieza un poco empinada, pero luego es todo bajada, pueden ver cómo el sol estaba a punto de salir.

This is one of the few buildings in this area, I love how the sun was already starting to touch it.

Este es uno de los pocos edificios que hay por esta zona, me encanta como el sol ya empezaba a tocarlo.

What you see here is known as the "P1", where lunches are prepared for the city's elementary schools.

Esto que ven aquí se conoce como el "P1", en este lugar se preparan los almuerzos para las escuelas primarias de la ciudad.

Here the street starts to go downhill, I like how clean this part of the city looks and how quiet it is at this time of day, since most people prefer to walk on the main street, one of the reasons is that they have to take transportation to go to work or to school and they have more possibilities to do it on the other street, since this is where all the bus stops are.

Aquí la calle empieza a ponerse cuesta abajo, me gusta que limpia se ve esta parte de la ciudad y la tranquilidad que hay a esa hora, pues la mayoría de las personas prefieren transitar por la calle principal, una de las razones es que deben tomar el transporte para ir a sus centros de trabajo o a la escuela y tienen más posibilidades de hacerlo en la otra calle, pues es donde están todas las paradas.

I liked how the yellow building is illuminated by the sun's rays.

Me gustó como se ilumina el edificio amarillo con los rayos del sol.

As the minutes go by the sun is illuminating most of the houses, but we still enjoy the fresh morning air. (We are already in the neighborhood where I was born, a block away from my house and the memories of my childhood begin to appear).

A medida que van pasando los minutos el sol va iluminando la mayoría de las casas, pero aún se disfruta el aire fresco de la mañana. (Ya estamos en el barrio donde nací, a una cuadra de mi casa y los recuerdos de mi niñez empiezan a aparecer).

On this corner where there is now a cafeteria I remember that there used to be a guarapera (a place where they sell cane juice) and public telephones, I remember them because at night my mother used to bring me there to call my father in Havana.

En esta esquina donde hay ahora una cafetería recuerdo que solía existir una guarapera y teléfonos públicos, los recuerdo porque en las noches mi mamá me traía para llamar a mi papá a La Habana.

This is San Juan street that crosses Yagruma street, I took advantage that the traffic light was red and took this picture. I can't just see a street, when I see it I also remember several of my dreams, literally things that I have dreamed that take place here.

Esta es la calle San Juan que atraviesa la calle Yagruma, aproveché que la luz del semáforo estaba en rojo y tomé esta foto. No puedo simplemente ver una calle, al verla también recuerdo varios de mis sueños, literalmente cosas que he soñado que tienen lugar aquí.

And here I present to you the block where I was born and spent all my childhood, I lived here until 6th grade. I have too many beautiful memories of this place and to this day, most of my dreams happen in this neighborhood. It's something amazing, my eyes don't just see streets and houses, but dreams that I've had over the years that are still in my memory. That's why I love walking here, it's as much a walk through my past as it is through my dreams, it's very special.

Y aquí les presento la cuadra donde nací y pasé toda mi infancia, viví aquí hasta el 6to grado. Tengo demasiados recuerdos bonitos de este lugar y hasta el día de hoy, la mayoría de mis sueños suceden en este barrio. Es algo increíble, mis ojos no solo ven calles y casas, sino sueños que he tenido a lo largo de los años y que aún están en mi memoria. Por eso me encanta caminar por aquí, es tanto un paseo por mi pasado como por mis sueños, es muy especial.

My house was the pink one next to the green one. It is a big house with many rooms, many of the dreams happen inside the house. One of these days I would like to ask the new tenants to let me in to take a look around and see the changes it has undergone. It would be like time travel for me ( nostalgia should be my middle name 😅).

Mi casa era la rosada que está junto a la verde. Es una casa grande con muchas habitaciones, muchos de los sueños ocurren dentro de la casa. Un día de estos me gustaría pedirles a los nuevos inquilinos que me dejen entrar para echar un vistazo y ver los cambios que ha sufrido. Sería como un viaje en el tiempo para mí ( nostalgia debería ser mi segundo nombre 😅)

This was the house of my best friend from the neighborhood, who currently lives in the United States. I see that the house hasn't changed much, just a remodel on the upper windows. How many memories come to mind 🥰.

Esta era la casa de mi mejor amiga del barrio, que actualmente vive en los Estados Unidos. Veo que la casa no ha cambiado mucho, solo una remodelación en las ventanas superiores. Cuántos recuerdos me vienen a la mente 🥰.

We better continue with the walk, leaving behind my block comes El Bosque Park, a park that is located in the center of the city and comprises several streets, including the main street on one side and on the other Yagruma street, which is coming to an end. But first check out this graffiti in this place where local artists gather.

Mejor seguimos con el paseo, dejando atrás mi cuadra viene el Parque del Bosque, un parque que está ubicado en el ce tro de la ciudad y comprende varias calles, entre ellas la calle principal de un lado y del otro la calle Yagruma, que ya llega a su final. Pero antes vean estos grafitis en este local donde se reúnen artistas locales.

Turning left from the park is Velescaviedes Street, where there are many recreation centers such as the Praga movie theater (which is out of service at the moment) and the Coppelia ice cream parlor.

Al doblar la izquierda del parque viene la calle Velescaviedes, donde hay muchos centros de recreación como el cine Praga (que está fuera de servicio en estos momentos) y la heladería Coppelia.

We are almost to the place where I have to take the transportation to go to work, not all the way is on foot my friends. This fountain you see here is at the entrance of the local radio station "Radio Guamá".

Ya casi llegamos a donde debo tomar el transporte para ir al trabajo, no todo el camino es a pie mis amigos. Está fuente que ven aquí está a la entrada de la emisora de radio local "Radio Guamá".

Then I pass behind the bus terminal, go through a beautiful park and arrive at Cavada Street, where there is a bus stop, but the buses take a long time, so the best option to go to work is the horse-drawn carriage, which leaves me at the very entrance of the university.

Luego paso por atrás de la terminal de ómnibus, paso por un parque muy bonito y llego a la calle Cavada, donde hay una parada, pero las guaguas se demoran mucho, por eso la mejor opción para ir para el trabajo es el coche de caballo, que me deja en la misma entrada de la universidad.

So much for the walk folks, as I didn't want to be late for class, especially if I'm the teacher 😅.

Hasta aquí el paseo amigos, pues no quería llegar tarde a clases, especialmente si yo soy la profesora 😅.
