Wednesday Walk: A colorful city 🎨 (Eng/Esp)

Hi guys, I hope you are all OK. I'm glad to be back here to show you a little more about my city. For this walk I went through some parts of the city where there are some beautiful murals, and I'm going to show you all of them to you.

These are murals that I have seen since I was a little girl, and I always like watching them because they are so colorful and I love abstract paintings. I see most of them on my way to school and the others when I am doing something in the city.

So, these are the murals of my city:

1- "A love song"

This mural is one of the largest, since it is painted in several walls, belonging to a warehouse. I remember it was one of my favorite as a kid for its beautiful colors. It was painted in 2003 and restored in 2017 and it is a collaboration between Cuban and Brazilian artists. Of all the things that are in the mural, my favorite part is where there's a girl playing with bubbles and inside her eyes there is a sunflower field.

2- "I have faith in destiny"

This one is located next to a park downtown and I have good memories of it, because my dad used to lived near it with my stepmother from that time, and every time we passed by it, I used to tell my stepmother that she was the witch in the painting 😅, as a joke, of course. By the way, the witch is under the moon. The mural was painted in 1995 and restored in 2014. It is a representation of our folklore and the part that I like the most is the boat, which is a palm tree: our national tree. I also love the witch 😁.

3- "Connection"

This one is painted on the walls of Rafael Ferro High School and it's clearly a criticism to how technology have replaced real books and controls every aspect of our lives. The man in the book is our National Hero José Martí and there is also a tobacco leaf in it because it is something that represents my province Pinar del Río, which is famous for making the best tobacco in the world. It was painted in 2015 and I like it for its colors and for the message it has.

4- "Protection"

This mural is also painted on the walls of Rafael Ferro High School. It was painted in 2000 and restored in 2015. I think the main message it has is how human activity is so harmful for the environment and how we must protect it and be friendlier with the plants and the animals. I think it's a great message for the students that go to that school.

5- "Untitled"

This one was painted in 1993 and restored in 2017. It is painted on the walls of "Loynaz Brother's Center", which is between an elementary school and the telecommunications company. My favorite part is the man on a bicycle on a book path that leads to the sun. For me, this represents the power that knowledge has and how with it we can go very far.

6- "Untitled"

This last mural was painted in 1997 and restored in 2013. It is located at the end of the main street, very close to the Science Museum. It is a representation of daily life in the province of Pinar del Río, as we can see elements of the city such as a bus, a woman riding a bicycle with her children and some buildings, as well as elements of the countryside such as beautiful landscapes, mountains, fields and tobacco houses and even a couple riding a horse.

Hola chicos, espero que estén todos bien. Me alegro de estar de vuelta aquí para mostrarles un poco más de mi ciudad. Para este paseo pasé por algunas partes de la ciudad donde hay unos murales preciosos, y se los voy a mostrar todos.

Estos son murales que he visto desde que era una niña, y siempre me gusta verlos porque son muy coloridos y me encantan las pinturas abstractas. A la mayoría los veo de camino a la escuela ya los demás cuando estoy haciendo algo en la ciudad.

Entonces, estos son los murales de mi ciudad:

1- "Un canto de amor"

Este mural es uno de los más grandes, ya que está pintado en varias paredes, pertenecientes a un almacén. Recuerdo que era uno de mis favoritos cuando era niña por sus hermosos colores. Fue pintado en 2003 y restaurado en 2017 y es una colaboración entre artistas cubanos y brasileños. De todas las cosas que hay en el mural, mi parte favorita es donde hay una niña jugando con burbujas y dentro de sus ojos hay un campo de girasoles.

2- "Tengo fe en el destino"

Este está ubicado al lado de un parque en el centro y tengo buenos recuerdos de él, porque mi papá vivía cerca de él con mi madrastra de esa época, y cada vez que pasábamos por allí, le decía a mi madrastra que ella era la bruja en el cuadro 😅, de broma, claro. Por cierto, la bruja está bajo la luna. El mural fue pintado en 1995 y restaurado en 2014. Es una representación de nuestro folklore y la parte que más me gusta es el barco, que es una palmera: nuestro árbol nacional. También amo a la bruja 😁.

3- "Conexión"

Este está pintado en las paredes de la escuela secundaria Rafael Ferro y es claramente una crítica a cómo la tecnología ha reemplazado a los libros reales y controla todos los aspectos de nuestras vidas. El hombre del libro es nuestro Héroe Nacional José Martí y también tiene una hoja de tabaco porque es algo que representa a mi provincia Pinar del Río, que es famosa por hacer el mejor tabaco del mundo. Se pintó en el 2015 y me gusta por sus colores y por el mensaje que tiene.

4- "Protección"

Este mural también está pintado en las paredes del Liceo Rafael Ferro. Fue pintado en 2000 y restaurado en 2015. Creo que el mensaje principal que tiene es cómo la actividad humana es tan dañina para el medio ambiente y cómo debemos protegerlo y ser más amigables con las plantas y los animales. Creo que es un gran mensaje para los estudiantes que van a esa escuela.

5- "Sin título"

Este fue pintado en 1993 y restaurado en 2017. Está pintado en las paredes del "Centro Hermanos Loynaz", que se encuentra entre una escuela primaria y la empresa de telecomunicaciones. Mi parte favorita es el hombre en bicicleta en un camino de libros que conduce al sol. Para mí esto representa el poder que tiene el conocimiento y cómo con él podemos llegar muy lejos.

6- "Sin título"

Este último mural fue pintado en 1997 y restaurado en 2013. Se encuentra al final de la calle principal muy cerca del Museo de Ciencias. Es una representación de la vida cotidiana de la provincia de Pinar del Río, pues podemos ver tanto elementos de la ciudad como un autobús, una mujer montando bicicleta con sus hijos y unos edificios, cómo elementos del campo como unos paisajes bellos, las montañas, sembrados y casas de tabaco y hasta una pareja que monta a caballo.
