👻 Hello dear hivers, this is my entry for the Halloween contest promoted by Movies and TV Shows. I want to tell you all about my experience with Halloween, because I know it is very different from any other and the main reason for that is the fact that I live in Cuba. But anyways, Halloween is my favorite holiday, I love everything about it: the costumes; the parties; the decoration; the supernatural creatures like ghosts, witches and vampires, but especially I love the movies. There's nothing like celebrating Halloween night by watching a spooky movie with your friends or your partner,while being in a costume, and if the weather is windy and there's a smell of rain, oh gawd, even better 😌. So, in this post I want to tell you a bit about what happens on Halloween in my country, what I do on this night and I also want to share with you a spooky coincidence that I think you will appreciate 😉.

Hola queridos hivers, esta es mi entrada para el concurso de Halloween promovido por Movies and TV Shows. Quiero contarles mi experiencia con Halloween, porque sé que es muy diferente a cualquier otra y la razón principal es que vivo en Cuba. Pero de todos modos, Halloween es mi fiesta favorita, me encanta todo: los disfraces; las fiestas; la decoración; las criaturas sobrenaturales como fantasmas, brujas y vampiros, pero sobre todo me encanta el cine. No hay nada como celebrar la noche de Halloween viendo una película de miedo con tus amigos o tu pareja, disfrazado, y si hace viento y huele a lluvia, oh Dios, mejor 😌. Entonces, en este post quiero contarles un poco sobre lo que pasa en Halloween en mi país, lo que hago en esta noche y también quiero compartir con ustedes una espeluznante coincidencia que creo que apreciarán 😉.

Halloween in Cuba
Well,the first thing that I need to say is that Halloween is not celebrated in Cuba,well at least not officially, since it is not one of our traditions like Christmas eve or New year's eve, so it is not accepted by the government institutions as a day to celebrate or throw theme parties. However, this date is growing in the hearts of Cubans and it's getting stronger each year. So much so that they wait every year for the final days of October to put on their costumes and look for where to go or how to celebrate. There are usually some night clubs and private businesses that take initiative and celebrate Halloween, and they may also have a costume contest and give away prizes to the best costumes of the night. Many people go out and gather in groups with their costumes, but this only happens in Havana, the capital city, and more specifically in a park in Vedado, it is called "Parque de G". You do not see the same enthusiasm for this holiday in the rest of the provinces. In Pinar del Río,for example, the province where I'm from there are few night clubs that celebrate Halloween and it is the minority who comes wearing a costume. But there's a reason for that, you cannot find a costume shop in Cuba, we don't even have that much candy in our shops or the resources to buy them and don't get me started on Halloween-related decorations for our houses, it's non existing.
But it's not all bad, there are some people who throw Halloween parties at their houses,and with some friends wearing make-up and some music you can have a very fun night. Besides, you can always count on movies to spend this night. Movies are the main reason why Cubans know and love this holiday.

Halloween en Cuba
Bueno, lo primero que debo decir es que Halloween no se celebra en Cuba, bueno al menos no oficialmente, ya que no es una de nuestras tradiciones como la nochebuena o la nochevieja, por lo que no es aceptado por las instituciones gubernamentales como un día para celebrar o hacer fiestas temáticas. Sin embargo, esta fecha crece en el corazón de los cubanos y cada año toma más fuerza. Tanto es así que todos los años esperan los últimos días de octubre para ponerse los disfraces y buscar adónde ir o cómo celebrarlo. Suele haber algunas discotecas y negocios privados que toman la iniciativa y celebran Halloween, pudiendo también realizar un concurso de disfraces y premiar a los mejores disfraces de la noche. Muchas personas salen y se juntan en grupos con sus disfraces, pero esto solo ocurre en La Habana, la ciudad capital, y más específicamente en un parque del Vedado, se llama "Parque de G". No se ve el mismo entusiasmo por esta festividad en el resto de provincias. En Pinar del Río, por ejemplo, la provincia de donde soy, hay pocas discotecas que celebren Halloween y es la minoría la que viene disfrazada. Pero hay una razón para eso, no puedes encontrar una tienda de disfraces en Cuba, ni siquiera tenemos tantos dulces en nuestras tiendas o los recursos para comprarlos y no me hagas empezar con las decoraciones relacionadas con Halloween para nuestras casas, es inexistente.
Pero no todo es malo, hay gente que hace fiestas de Halloween en sus casas, y con unos amigos maquillados y algo de música se puede pasar una noche muy divertida. Además, siempre puedes contar con las películas para pasar esta noche. El cine es la razón principal por la que los cubanos conocen y aman esta festividad.

What I do on Halloween
Oh I love October 31st, when this day comes I always try to put on some make-up and get dressed the best I can to try to imitate a costume. Then I take some selfies and post it on my social media. I always try to involve my family and husband into doing the same, but they never want to do it 😅.

Lo que hago en Halloween
Oh, me encanta el 31 de octubre, cuando llega este día siempre trato de maquillarme y vestirme lo mejor que puedo para tratar de imitar un disfraz. Luego me tomo algunas selfies y las publico en mis redes sociales. Siempre trato de involucrar a mi familia y esposo para que hagan lo mismo, pero nunca quieren hacerlo 😅.

This is a picture of my cousin and I back in 2018. We were dressed as a vampire and a witch, but again, the best we can do is our make-up.

Esta es una foto de mi prima y yo en 2018. Estábamos vestidas como un vampiro y una bruja, pero nuevamente, lo mejor que podemos hacer es nuestro maquillaje.

These next pictures are from 2019. We went to a Halloween party in a night club.

Las siguientes fotos son de 2019. Fuimos a una fiesta de Halloween en un club nocturno.

This last picture was taken at our house before leaving to the party.
That was an incredible night, it was my first and only Halloween party in my life. I was dressed as a scarecrow,the best part of my costume was my make-up and I dit it all by myself.
Now,last year I posted again in my social media some pictures of myself, but this time I also did my sister-in-law's make-up. She was a doll and I was kind of like a dead. Here's the pictures.

Esta última foto fue tomada en nuestra casa antes de salir a la fiesta.
Esa fue una noche increíble, fue mi primera y única fiesta de Halloween en mi vida. Estaba vestida como un espantapájaros, la mejor parte de mi disfraz fue mi maquillaje y lo hice todo yo sola.
Ahora bien, el año pasado volví a publicar en mis redes sociales algunas fotos mías, pero esta vez también maquillé a mi cuñada. Ella era una muñeca y yo era como un muerto. Aquí están las fotos.

The spooky coincidence
The coincidence I want to share with you is related to my name. Yes,my name, Wendy, I have the name of a famous witch: Wendy the good little witch 😁, she was friends with Casper. I love the movie they did starring young Hilary Duff, and she was always wearing red which is my favorite color. Plus, she also had an animated series. I remember watching it when I was a kid.

La espeluznante coincidencia
La coincidencia que quiero compartir con ustedes está relacionada con mi nombre. Sí, mi nombre, Wendy, tengo el nombre de una bruja famosa: Wendy la brujita buena 😁, era amiga de Casper. Me encanta la película que hicieron protagonizada por la joven Hilary Duff, y ella siempre vestía de rojo, que es mi color favorito. Además, también tuvo una serie animada. Recuerdo haberla visto cuando era pequeña.

The other part of the coincidence has to do with my sister-in-law's name. Can you guess it? 🤔. Yes, she has the name of another famous witch. Her name is Sabrina, like Sabrina Spellman herself, and the best part is that we have a black cat, I mean...
I struggled with naming the cat Salem or Binx, but with a Sabrina at home it was an obvious decision to call the cat Salem.
I want to add that I also watched Sabrina the teenage witch, a Nickelodeon show, Sabrina the animated series and more recently Netflix's Chilling adventures of Sabrina, which I adored.

La otra parte de la coincidencia tiene que ver con el nombre de mi cuñada. ¿Puedes adivinarlo? 🤔. Sí, tiene el nombre de otra bruja famosa. Su nombre es Sabrina, como la propia Sabrina Spellman, y la mejor parte es que tenemos un gato negro, quiero decir...
Luché por nombrar al gato Salem o Binx, pero con una Sabrina en casa fue una decisión obvia llamar al gato Salem.
Quiero agregar que también vi Sabrina, la bruja adolescente, un programa de Nickelodeon, Sabrina, la serie animada y, más recientemente, las escalofriantes aventuras de Sabrina de Netflix, que adoré.
