Visitando la II Feria de quesos_Perú | II Cheese Fair in Peru

Last week the II Cheese Fair took place in Lima, Peru. Its objectives were to generate alliances between suppliers of shops (retailers or wholesalers) and cheese producers. In addition to promoting the national consumption of cheese. Which, by the way, is on the increase, especially fresh cheese.

La semana pasada se llevó a cabo la II Feria del Queso en Lima, Perú. Siendo sus objetivos generar alianzas entre proveedores de tiendas (minoristas o mayoristas) y los productores de queso. Además de promover el consumo nacional de Queso. Por cierto, este va en aumento, sobre todo del queso fresco.

This event brought together cheese producers from 17 departments of the country: Amazonas, Arequipa, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Ancash, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Ica, Junín, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Lima, Pasco, Piura and Puno. This was its 2nd edition and took place at the Centro de Exposiciones Jockey, Lima, Peru. This is a more centrally located venue with a larger capacity in its facilities and seating capacity.

Este evento reunió a productores queseros de 17 departamentos del país: Amazonas, Arequipa, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Ancash, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Ica, junín, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Lima, Pasco, Piura y Puno. Siendo esta su 2° Edición y tuvo lugar en el Centro de Exposiciones Jockey, Lima, Perú. Este es un lugar más céntrico y con una mayor capacidad en sus instalaciones y el aforo.

Público | Range of audiences

At this fair I was struck by the age range of the people. They ranged from children (4 years old), teenagers, young people and seniors. Although most of them were young people. And that's good, because you can see the interest in consuming nutritious and national products.

En esta Feria me llamó la atención el rango etario de las personas. Siendo desde niños (4 años), adolescentes, jóvenes y personas de la 3° edad. Aunque en su mayoría habían jóvenes. Y eso está bueno, porque se nota el interés por consumir productos nutritivos y nacionales.

¡Alguien dijo Quesos | Cheese!

Years ago I heard about the existence of ‘Queso de los Andes’ and I was curious. This time, I took the opportunity to try it and it was not to my liking (personal opinion). I also tried the ‘Queso horneado’, and I don't know about you, but it smells and tastes like firewood...in my opinion, it shouldn't be there. Or maybe that's the style. True, there were several ‘matured’ cheeses.

Hace años supe de la existencia del "Queso de los Andes" y tuve curiosidad. Esta vez, aproveché la oportunidad de probarlos y no fue de mi agrado (opinión personal). También probé el "Queso horneado", y no se ustedes pero yo siento es olor y sabor a leña...a mi parecer eso no debería haber. O quizá ese sea el estilo. Cierto, hubo varios quesos "madurados".

Quesos internacionales

One of the things that caught my attention at this fair was the presentation of the cheeses. The labelling, the octagons (high in saturated fats and high in sodium) and the type of bags. Also the shapes of the cheeses, 10.55, 1.1 lb and 2.2 lb. So there is something for all budgets. As for the international cheeses, I do not highlight any of them (personal opinion). Although they may produce them very well, I feel that by making a similar product, in the end each department loses its identity.

Una de las cosas que me llamó la atención en esta Feria fue la presentación de los quesos. Tanto por el etiquetado, los octógonos (alto en grasas saturadas y alto en sodio) y el tipo de bolsas. También las formas de los quesos, 1/4, 1/2 kg y 1kg. Como para todos los bolsillos. En cuanto a los quesos internacionales, no resalto ninguno (opinión personal). Si bien puede que lo elaboren muy bien, siento que al realizar un producto homogéneo, en el fondo cada departamento pierde su identidad.

Decoración

Several stalls were decorated with flowers and fruit. There were also dairy products such as yogurt, butter and ice cream. And cheeses and goat yogurt.

Varios puestos estaban decorados con flores y frutas. También habían derivados lácteos como yogures, mantequilla, helados. Y quesos y yogur de cabra.

Curiosidades | curiosities

Several of the exhibitors were winners of national and international competitions in previous years and were exhibiting their prizes, guaranteeing the high quality of their products. The Cheese mascot was not to be missed, jaja. I took the opportunity to taste the real ‘butter’ and you can tell the difference with the pseudo-butter (that which we spread on bread guided by advertising, jaja). There were also live cooking demonstrations.

Varios de los feriantes fueron ganadores de concursos nacionales e internacionales de años anteriores y estaban exhibiendo sus premios, garantizando la alta calidad de sus productos. La mascota del Queso no podía faltar, jaja. Aproveché la oportunidad para probar la verdadera "mantequilla" y se nota la diferencia con la pseudomantequilla (esa que le untamos al pan guiados por la publicidad, jaja). También hubo demostraciones de cocina en vivo.

My favourite cheese is the ‘Paria’ from Puno and I loved the idea of trying different versions of Paria from the other departments. On the other hand, at the national level, ‘Fresco’ type cheese is more consumed. Among the types of cheese presented at the fair we have:

Mi queso favorito es el "Paria" de Puno y me encantó la idea de probar distintas versiones de Paria de los otros departamentos. Por otro lado, a nivel nacional se consume más el queso tipo "Fresco". Entre los tipos de quesos presentados en la feria tenemos a:

Músicos y danzantes

Music and dances were present, this time by the artists from Cajamarca and their colorful costumes. The music was also very good.

La música y danzas estuvieron presente, esta vez por los artistas desde Cajamarca y sus coloridas vestimentas. La música también estuvo muy buena.

Compras | Shopping

Although it was a cheese fair, there was a yoghurt that I loved and the best thing is that it came all the way from the Amazon. It is the thickest yoghurt I have ever tasted and loaded with beneficial bacteria...my colon and bacterial flora thanks you Kisu lac. I was delighted that all the attendees took away bags full of cheese and yoghurt, supporting the national producer. Actions like these make me feel alive.

Si bien fue una feria de quesos, hubo un yogurt que me encantó y lo mejor es que llegó desde el Amazonas. Es el yogurt más espeso que probé y cargado muchas bacterias benéficas...mi cólon y flora bacteriana te lo agradadece Kisu lac. Me alegró un montó que todos los asistentes se llevaran bolsas repletas de quesos y yogures, apoyando al productor nacional. Acciones como estas me hacen sentir viva.
