🌿 Wednesday Walk Discoveries: Our Neighbor's Secret Veggie Patch 🌿

Happy Wednesday, everyone!!

Today felt like a marathon.. I finally finished my morning shift late, around 3 in the afternoon.. After all that sitting and staring at a screen, my body was yelling, "Get outside and move" 🤣 So, I ditched my chair and went for a quick walk to get some fresh air.. 🌬

The first part of my walk was the usual,, the big trees next to our lot that are always full of life and the quiet road

But then,, I stumbled upon a little hidden gem right along the roadside fence.. 🙂 The Edible Jungle 🌴🌳

I honestly didn't realize how much food was growing right here.. It was like a free, public grocery store.. 😜

Kamote Plants (sweetpotato leaves) 🍃

The ground was covered in these green leaves.. My mind immediately went to the delicious soup we make with kamote tops and fish or pork.. Yum yjm.. 😋

Papaya

A young tree with a few green fruits hanging tight.. It’s ready for a refreshing green salad or maybe some chicken tinola later on.. 😁

Eggplant (aubergine) and Lady Fingers (Okra)

Both were standing tall against the wall ready for a yummy pinakbet or just grilled with some soy sauce and calamansi.. 😋

I love that my neighbor planted these.. Even better?! They actually encourage people to take some if they need them.. That’s the kind of community spirit we all need.. 😍

Sweet Finds Beyond the veggies,, the whole area is packed with wild fruits and jungle vibes..

They're everywhere, towering over the bushes...

Bush Passion Fruit

I spotted this bright yellow, spiky fruit hiding in the vines.. I can already taste the tart sweet juice inside.. 😁 Have you ever had this??

Kerson Fruit / Aratiles (No fruits this time)

The kids love it.. so every time they pass by here,, they'll grab some.. It’s such a simple and sweet treat..

It was so nice to walk off the late-afternoon slump and discover all this green growing abundance right outside my door..

Sometimes, the best places to explore are the ones you see every day but never truly look at.. 😊
